Pokemon Go takes smartphones by storm

Just days after its U.S. launch, Pokemon Go was installed on just over 5 percent of Android devices in the country, with more than half reportedly using the augmented reality game daily. The app, which allows players to track down virtual characters in real locations, is a creation of Niantic Labs, a gaming startup spun out of Google and backed by Nintendo.

Line prices IPO at top of range, looks to raise $1.14B

Japan’s Line, the messaging app known for its emoji-like animated stickers, has priced shares at the top end of its IPO range and expects to raise $1.14 billion in a market debut this week in New York and Tokyo.

U.S. venture firms raise $8.8B in Q2

U.S. venture capital firms raised $8.8 billion for 67 funds during the second quarter of 2016, according to a report from the National Venture Capital Association and Thomson Reuters. The number of funds closed during the quarter was on par with the first quarter of this year, while dollar commitments registered a 37 percent decrease compared to the first quarter of 2016, which ranked as the strongest quarter in a decade.
