Pandemic-era isolating unleashed a slew of unfortunate side effects: DIY haircuts, "Zoom fails" and disastrous toilet paper shortages, to name a few.
But experts have uncovered one good, yet unexpected outcome from the pandemic: Child abuse reports went down significantly, despite predictions that they would rise. Experts say the difference was made by "an array of unprecedented social welfare policies."
After Utah-based crypto company grows to $9 billion value, its CEO is arrested in Provo for fraud
Braden John Karony, the 27-year-old CEO of cryptocurrency company SafeMoon, was arrested Wednesday after authorities say he was involved in a scheme that used investor funds to purchase luxury vehicles and real estate.
Karony is charged with conspiracy to commit securities fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy. He was taken into custody in Provo.
The company was touted by media personality Dave Portnoy, founder of Barstool Sports, who told his fans he had invested over $40,000 in SafeMoon. Portnoy later “told people it may be a scam,” he wrote on X.

The Grand Old Party is divided over what role America should play in foreign wars, especially in Ukraine. But of late, Utah Sen. Mike Lee has seen the consensus among his Republican colleagues in Congress shift his way.
“A lot of people are moving toward the position where I’ve been for some time now, which is that we should have caution in doing this,” Lee told the Deseret News in an interview on Monday.
In the past several months, the number of House Republicans who opposed legislation providing aid for Ukraine grew from 70 members in July to 93 in September. This skepticism toward further Ukraine aid is fueled in part by worries over corruption, the $113 billion already sent to the country and the prospect of sparking a global war.
