Seismic shifts are happening across television. Spending during this year's upfront will be way down. Minutes spent streaming on a connected TV have doubled, while the six biggest MVPDs lost over 2 million pay-TV subscribers combined in the first quarter. Programmatic may have a new opportunity to take center stage in upfront discussions this year, a result of CTV becoming a bigger part of the conversation as the coronavirus pandemic continues to affect advertising buys, especially on linear TV.
