Genesis 34 tells the story of Dinah, the daughter of Jacob. John 4 tells the story of the woman at the well. Other than both appearing in the Bible, these two women seem, at first glance, to have little to do with one another. But, as Dr. Jackie Roese explains on the first episode of CT’s new podcast Holy Curiosity with Kat Armstrong, their hometown connects them in more ways than one. Both Dinah and the woman at the well hailed from Shechem, where they experienced marginalization, vulnerability, and even exploitation because of their low cultural status as women. Roese and Armstrong talk about the horror of Dinah’s story as a woman who was sexually assaulted. They consider the brokenness and pain that emerged in the life of the woman at the well. And they encourage listeners to remember that Jesus enters into the places of our greatest hurt, moving toward humanity with hope and healing. May their conversation prompt holy curiosity about the stories of these Scriptural women and the stories God is telling through our lives, as well. |
