Cunard is a luxury British cruise line, renowned for creating unforgettable experiences around the world. Cunard offers a unique position in the cruise landscape; in the 183 years since the RMS Britannia sailed into the U.S., Cunard ships have crossed and re-crossed the Atlantic, in peace and war, and they are still the only line to offer regularly scheduled service across the Atlantic. Founder Samuel Cunard was awarded the first Transatlantic Steamship Mail contract in 1840, and the Britannia left Liverpool that July, inaugurating scheduled mail service to the U.S. and changing the face of ocean travel forever. On December 29, 1847, Cunard made its first call to New York City when Hibernia arrived. Shortly after that, Cunard made its North American home in New York City and has been sailing in and out ever since. Today Cunard sails the globe with destinations including Europe, the Caribbean, the Far East and Australia.
There are currently three Cunard ships, Queen Mary 2®, Queen Elizabeth® and Queen Victoria® and a fourth ship, Queen Anne®, will enter service in 2024. The launch of Queen Anne will mark the first time since 1999 that Cunard will have four ships in simultaneous service. |

Throughout its history, Cunard has set the standard for fashionable ocean travel, hosting an array of celebrities and luminaries including Elizabeth Taylor, Rita Hayworth, Cary Grant and Bob Hope, to more recent notables such as Baz Lurhmann, Lenny Kravitz, Uma Thurman, Wes Anderson, Tilda Swinton and Alan Cumming. Sting performed a set in Queen Mary 2’s Royal Court Theatre, Ed Sheeran wrote part of his last album on a crossing and Francis Ford Coppola sailed recently to work on a book. In December 2017, Queen Mary 2 hosted a major movie premiere with the star-studded event for 20th Century Fox’s ‘The Greatest Showman’ starring Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams, Zac Efron, Rebecca Ferguson and Zendaya.
The line also has a ties to the royal family as Queen Elizabeth served as godmother to three Cunard ships: QE2 – now retired, Queen Mary 2, and Queen Elizabeth. King Charles was present when Camilla, Queen Consort, christened Queen Victoria in 2007. Other members of royalty who have visited Cunard ships include HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, Princess Anne, Queen Sofia of Spain and HM Queen Noor of Jordan. In addition, a number of heads of state have visited and sailed such as Former GB Prime Minister John Major, Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and President George Bush. You too can take your place in history when you sail on a Cunard voyage! |
