| | Your ideas are valuable, are you protecting them? In today’s competitive landscape, intellectual property (IP) rights are critical for businesses, startups, and research organisations looking to commercialise their innovations. These rights not only protect your creations but also serve as powerful tools to advance your ideas into the market, ensuring you get the benefits of your hard work and ingenuity.
Intellectual property rights encompass a range of legal protections, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
Recent data from the IP Report shows that the number of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in Australia that hold patents has increased at 5 times the rate when compared to the number of SMEs in the economy, a pattern not observed for large organisations.
If you’re navigating the IP in your business, here are a range of resources that can help: Intellectual property rights are more than just legal protections, they are strategic assets that support the growth of your business. Your ideas are valuable, make sure they are well-protected for maximum impact.

| | | Do you run pop-up events in your business? If you run events such as markets and festivals, then the proposed Temporary Events Policy may affect you. This policy aims to streamline the process for establishing regular events in Cockburn and reduce red tape. Key points of the draft policy include: - Low-frequency events (1-5 times a year) need public building approval and reservation with the City.
- High-frequency events (6+ times a year) require Development Approval and public building approval.
- All events must submit traffic, waste, and noise management plans, notify nearby residents, provide a bond for land degradation, and maintain public liability insurance.
If this impacts you, then tell us what you think by 4pm, Friday 12 July. To share your views on the draft policy visit: https://bit.ly/4e8VObA. |
