Pie in the sky: Airline finds creative way to keep workers busy

What’s the deal with airline food? You can now buy it in stores, that’s what! Thanks to a new initiative from the folks at Finnair, the airline will start selling business class airplane food in supermarkets. You might be wondering why, but Finnair believes this is one of the best ways to help their employees stay on the payroll.

With travel all but shuttered due to COVID-19, Finnair is hoping enough travel-hungry shoppers will pick up airplane food from the store for a bit of nostalgia. And for the most part, shoppers were surprised by how much better they tasted. Apparently, high altitudes mess with your ability to taste and smell — so everything seems bland. Maybe we misjudged airline food all along. At their peak, some airlines were making nearly 225,000 meals per day!
