How lockdown created a new dawn for London’s strippers
The current crisis has turned life on its head for loads of people. Publicans are pouring takeaway pints, restaurateurs find themselves toiling in their own kitchens, preparing haute cuisine for delivery, and yoga teachers are now all incredibly competent live-streamers. One group you may not have thought about are the capital’s strippers. We caught up with members of the industry and discovered how quarantine and virtual clubs might pave the way for a kinder, fairer world for these workers.

Friday, 7pm Wonderful wizardry abounds
An African-American take on ‘The Wizard of Oz’, ‘The Wiz’ was a Broadway smash in the ’70s that was adapted into a 1978 Diana Ross film, now optimistically referred to as a cult classic. This 2015 production stars Queen Latifah and Mary J Blige, which makes it compulsory viewing for all right-minded citizens. Sorry: them’s the rules.
The best of the rest:
Thursday, 7pm ‘The Lighthouse’ filmmaker Robert Eggers in conversation with fellow director of fishermen Mark Jenkin, aka the guy who made 2019’s ‘Bait’.

Thursday, 7pm Mark Gatiss (from the telly) stars in this stage version of ‘The Madness of George III’, from way back in 2018.

Thursday, 7.30pm Get your tickets now for this charity ‘ultimate girl band’ quiz, hosted by Cheryl Hole from ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race UK’, in support of the incredible Terrence Higgins Trust.

Buy books from black-owned shops
One way to support the Black Lives Matter movement is to read. There are loads of great books, written from a black perspective, about the issues facing London’s (and the world’s) BAME communities. If you’re thinking of making a purchase, we strongly suggest buying from one of London’s black-owned bookshops. Some of these have been plying their wares for more than 50 years, so those wishing to broaden their horizons and learn about black culture and subjects like systemic racism will be in the safest of hands.
