History nonfiction competition Knight Flight launches Wednesday, January 23, at 10p. Series follows the full-contact Armored Combat League, also known as “Medieval MMA” or “Knight Fight Club.”
 
Also coming up on History is Jesus: His Life. Eight-part event tells the story of Jesus Christ through different biblical figures, starting Monday, March 25, at 8p. Finale airs just before Easter.

Showtime Documentary Films acquired North American rights to four-part limited series Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men. First two episodes premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on Monday, January 28, with the full series set to air on Showtime in the spring.

SYNDICATION
 
A+E Networks is partnering with PPI Releasing for the U.S. broadcast syndication launch of Intervention. Targeting the U.S. 2019-2020 broadcast season, 175 episodes of the Emmy Award-winner will be launched into syndication at NATPE.
 
Make ’em laugh: Entertainment Studios has a one-hour comedic talk show in the works for first-run broadcast syndication for fall 2020. A panel of comedians and celebrity guests will cover timely topics in Trending Funny. Coming up in fall 2019 is Entertainment Studios’ clips show, The World’s Funniest Weather.

DIGITAL DATA
 
Facebook identified two fraudulent pages created by Russian news agency Sputnik. “Despite their misrepresentations of their identities, we found these Pages and accounts were linked to employees of Sputnik,” revealed Nathaniel Gleicher, Head of Cybersecurity Policy, Facebook, in a blog post. Among other things, the Pages spread anti-NATO messages.
 
In its quarterly earnings letter, Netflix said it accounts for about 10% of U.S. TV viewing time. The streamer also reported its movie, Bird Box, added another 35 million households in the first four weeks after its release, for a total of 80 million.
 
Netflix’s price increase - $1/month for Basic Plan subscribers, $2/month for Standard and Premium Plans - isn’t going to chase too many subscribers away, but it could prompt them to downgrade. New research from Hub suggests 69% of streamers will keep their subscription as is, 16% will drop to a lower tier and 9% said they’d drop Netflix. Six percent said they consider upgrading to a higher tier. About half of subscribers said they were unhappy about the increase, while 15% were positive, expecting the increase to lead to better content and service.
 
Craigslist revenue topped $1 billion for the first time in 2018, according to the AIM Group’s Classified Intelligence Report. Large markets accounted for most of the classified ad website’s revenue ($981 million), said AIM Group, followed by midsize markets ($44 million) and small markets ($10 million).
 
Men are having their earrings digitally blurred on Chinese programs, reports CNN. While it’s not unusual for male Chinese celebs to wear earrings, “Seeing men wearing earrings, in many traditional men’s point of view, is a deterioration of their social status and respect,” said news website SupChina.
 
Ignite launched its Twitch channel on Friday, offering a look inside the cannabis company. Channel offers insights into work, cannabis and CBD education as well as workout routines and travel.
 
PodOp is pulling interactive choose-your-own-storyline series Mosaic from mobile platforms at the end of the month. “We’ve made the decision to stop supporting the Mosaic app as we transition to new projects,” said the company. HBO released a more traditional version of the project last year, which is still available on HBO Go and HBO Now.
 
French data-privacy agency CNIL fined Google $57 million for failing to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation, by not fully disclosing to users how their personal information is collected and for not properly obtaining consent. It’s the first significant GDPR penalty against a major U.S. technology player since the rules were implemented last year. Google responded by saying they are studying the decision to determine next steps and are “deeply committed to meeting those expectations and the consent requirements of the GDPR.”
 
 
ADVERTISING
 
Two years after pulling out of advertising on YouTube over concern about brand safety, AT&T is returning to the platform. “We want a near-zero chance of our advertising appearing next to objectionable content, and that’s a high standard,” Fiona Carter, AT&T’s Chief Brand Officer, told the NYTimes about the lengthy test period before AT&T resumed advertising on YouTube. 
 
Consumers are most attentive to mobile advertising while they’re at home watching TV (59%), according to a study by Aki Technologies. They’re also receptive when they’re in bed before sleeping (51%), eating a meal (36%), shopping at a store (24%), exercising (24%) and running errands (21%).
 
Advertising intelligence and sales-enablement platform MediaRadar released an analysis of advertisers’ TV ad spend that found advertisers ponied up more than $3 billion on TV ads across the four major leagues. While over 725 companies advertised during one or more of the different leagues’ playoffs, over 50 percent of the total ad spend came from 23 companies, including General Motors, the Anheuser-Busch Companies and AT&T. Verizon was the highest-spending advertiser.

Two new international versions of ITV Studios’ and Motion Content Group’s format Love Island are set to air in 2019, taking the total number of original commissions to 11 countries. In Belgium, SBS has licensed the format, which will be a co-production with RTL in the Netherlands. Polsat has ordered the show for Poland, which will be produced by Jakevision.

Viasat World expanded the reach of its Epic Drama in Hungary. Period drama channel and SVOD service is now available on Magyar Telekom’s and Vidanet’s platforms and reaches over 50% of television subscribers in the Hungarian market overall.
 
Alfred Haber, Inc. secured additional international sales for the 61st Annual Grammys, airing February 10 on CBS. Broadcasters who have recently signed include 4 Music (UK), Turner (Latin America), Foxtel (Australia), Danmark Radio (Denmark), Fox (Southeast Asia), Solar Entertainment Corporation (Philippines), Norwegian Broadcasting (Norway) and TVNZ (New Zealand).
 
Agreements have been closed with a variety of platforms in LATAM and the U.S. Hispanic market for the broadcast of A+E Networks’ scripted, factual and TV movie content, including agreements with Direct TV (Latin America), Plural TV (Colombia) and NBC Universo (U.S. Hispanic). The new agreement with Direct TV is A+E Networks’ first deal of this magnitude with the satellite provider in LATAM and includes David Cassidy: The Last SessionThe Clinton Affair and The 44th President: In His Own Words.
 
Sky Vision packed a slate of UK and international dramas for NATPE, including action series Curfew; BBC One thriller The Victim; Nordic crime series Bullets; and Sky Deutschland’s pre-apocalyptic adventure 8 Days. Discovery had four of the top five highest-delivering cable channels on Sunday night, January 13, among W25-54 (TLC #2, Food Network #3, ID #4, and HGTV #5). Discovery also captured six of the top 10 cable telecasts that night for W25-54 for the second week in a row, led by 90 Day Fiancé on TLC and Worst Cooks in America on Food Network.
 
Returning for its first telecast in a month, ABC’s A Million Little Things moved from Wednesdays to its new post-Grey’s Anatomy Thursday at 9p slot up +53% among Total Viewers (to 5.2 million) and up +57% among A18-49 (1.1/5). 
 
INSP’s average ratings for 2018 were +14% higher than 2017’s (in 24/7 average HH). It’s the fifth consecutive year INSP’s average ratings have increased by more than 10%.    
 
The finale of Bravo’s Dirty John was the highest-rated episode of the series among all key demos, growing double digits versus the prior week’s episode (+15% P18-49 / +13% P25-54 / +10% P2+) in Live+3, with 1.3 million P18-49, 1.6 million P25-54 and 3.3 million Total Viewers. 
 
The series launch of Fox’s The Passage averaged a 1.9/8 Live+3 rating. The series’ 8.4 million multi-platform viewers mark a +62% lift from Live+SD. The show was Fox’s second-most-streamed drama debut ever on Hulu and Fox Now.
 
CBS’s AFC championship game scored a winning 31.2 household rating in overnight metered market data, up 26% from 2018. The NFC game on Fox delivered a 27.1 overnight rating versus 27.3 last year.
