IN THE NEWS

Monica Lewinsky is set to star in six-part A&E documentary The Impeachment of Bill Clinton (wt), beginning Sunday, November 18. The cable net ordered the series from Alex Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions, Jemina Khan’s Instinct Productions and director Blair Foster (Rolling Stone: Stories From The Edge). The limited series features never-before-seen archival footage.

It’s one and done for American Woman, starring Alicia Silverstone. Paramount Network opted not to renew the comedy series that was originally developed and picked up by TV Land, before migrating to its sibling net. While the show got off to a respectable start in the ratings, debuting to 1 million viewers in Live+3, 0.63 with A18-49, 0.90 with W18-49, and 1.0 with W25-54, it could not sustain its premiere numbers.

Meanwhile, in another network switcheroo, TV Land’s Younger, which was renewed for a sixth season in June, is moving to Paramount Network.

Conservative media host Tomi Lahren will have a new role on FOX’s upcoming subscription streaming service Fox Nation, which is set to debut in Q4. She’ll deliver a First Thoughts segment at 9:30a and a Final Thoughts segment at 5p, focusing in top issues of the daily news cycles. Fox News Channel signed Lahren in August 2017 to contribute political commentary.

Tracee Ellis Ross is returning to host the American Music Awards for a second consecutive year. The Black-ish star will also executive produce the show, which airs live from Los Angeles on Tuesday, October 9 at 8p on ABC.

The Tribeca TV Festival made additions to its 2018 line-up, including celebrating 10 years of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of New York City with a conversation between EPs Andy Cohen and Lisa Shannon along with cast members Sonja Morgan, Dorinda Medley and Tinsley Mortimer. The program will also expand with the 5^th season premiere of FOX’s Empire, followed by a conversation with star Jussie Smollett. Festival takes place September 20-23 at Spring Studios in NYC.

German director Christian Schwochow is headed to Netflix’s The Crown. He’ll be behind the camera for two episodes of Season 3 of the royal series.

Facts of Life’s Nancy McKeon will be among the celebrities competing for the Mirror Ball Trophy on the upcoming 27^thseason of ABC’s Dancing With The Stars, it was revealed on Good Morning America on Wednesday. She’ll be teamed with Val Chmerkovskiy.

Stand Up to Cancer’s sixth biennial telecast, airing Friday, September 7 at 8p on ABC, has added more names to its star-studded lineup: Jason Bateman, Beth Behrs, Julie Bowen, Josh Brolin, Kaley Cuoco, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Max Greenfield, Jon Hamm, Mark Harmon, Sarah Hyland, Adam Klein, Tyler Labine, Diego Luna, Sonequa Martin-Green, Dave Price, Keanu Reeves, Tracee Ellis Ross, Winona Ryder, Jimmy Smits, Eric Stonestreet, Alison Sweeney, Bree Turner, Sofia Vergara and Marlon Wayans.

CBS announced the 20 castaways competing against one another on Survivor, when the series returns for its 37^th season with a special 90-minute premiere on Wednesday, September 26 at 8p. The new edition, themed “David vs. Goliath,” features two groups comprised of 10 strangers and will focus on the “underdogs” versus the “favorites.”

Voting has begun for “The E! People’s Choice Awards,” celebrating all forms of entertainment and chosen entirely by fans. The network unveiled 13 new categories, including The Bingeworthy Show of 2018, The Game Changer of 2018, The Revival Show of 2018 and more. Nomination voting for the 43 categories across movies, television, music and pop culture run through Friday, September 14 at 11:5p.

A+E Networks will launch new scripted series Project Blue Book at MIPCOM 2018 with the drama’s cast and showrunner to appear in Cannes. Showrunner, EP and writer Sean Jablonski will be joined by Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones), who toplines the series, and castmates Michael Malarkey (The Vampire Diaries) and Laura Mennell (The Man in The High Castle). The series is set to bow on History this winter.

Anthony Jeselnik (The Jeselnik Offensive, Caligula) inked a multiplatform deal with Comedy Central. The comedian will star in and executive produce an untitled, half-hour TV series and host a new weekly podcast, The Jeselnik and Rosenthal Vanity Project, co-hosted by his best friend, NFL Network analyst Gregg Rosenthal.

Paramount Network greenlit a full, 10-episode series order ofDarren Star’s Emily in Paris (wt). The half-hour show will be part of a new Thursday dramedy night launching in January.

iHeartMedia partnered with HowStuffWorks and Tenderfoot TV for a second season of Atlanta Monster, which will launch as Monster: The Zodiac Killer. Atlanta Monster delved into the horrific Atlanta Child Murders that took place form 1979 to 1981.

Oxygen Media inked an overall development deal with Paul Holes, the hero detective who helped bring the Golden State Killer to Justice. “Paul embodies what Oxygen is all about,” said Rod Aissa, Executive Vice President, Original Programming and Development, Oxygen. “His story is of the highest stakes, a career journey with brilliant investigation work that resulted in justice for dozens of victims and their families.”

Homecoming creators Eli Horowitz and Micha Bloomberg signed an overall deal with Universal Cable Productions, the studio behind the upcoming Amazon series starring Julia Roberts. The pair will develop original scripted programing with UCP for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment’s portfolio, as well as external networks and streaming services.

Following the success of 24-hour event The Last Drive-In With Joe Bob Briggs in July, Shudder is bringing back the horror host for Thanksgiving and Christmas specials, The Dinners of Death and A Very Joe Bob Christmas, respectively. Shudder is also launching a regular series featuring Briggs in 2019.

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

Two Syfy series were issued October return dates. Season 3 of Van Helsing bows Friday, October 5 at 9p, followed by the Season 5 premiere of Z Nation at 10p.

Bravo Media’s new primetime talk show, Bravo’s Play by Play, debuts Monday, September 24 at 10p. The limited series, executive produced byAndy Cohen, features host Jerry O’Connell alongside a panel of actors, comics, tastemakers and athletes discussing the buzziest Bravo moment and hot topics a la Sports Center.

Vegas Rat Rods brings motor madness back to Discovery Channel, when the show’s fourth season premieres Monday, October 1 at 10p.

Chesapeake Shores 3006 bows Sunday, September 9 at 9p on Hallmark Channel.

The US premiere of BBC America’s new Doctor Who on Sunday, October 7 will be timed to its UK broadcast, with an encore in primetime. The exact time has yet to be announced.

COMING UP

NBC Sports special FedExCup Playoffs: PGA TOUR’s Ultimate Prize, presented by Cologuard, airs Sunday, September 9 at 1:30p on NBC. Show chronicles the season-defining weeks leading up to the TOUR Championship with a focus on the contending players.

God Knows Where I Am bows Monday, October 15 at 10p on PBS (check local listings). Series tells the story of the late Linda Bishop, a well-educated New Hampshire mother diagnosed with severe bipolar disorder with psychosis, who was intermittently incarcerated and homeless.

Jewish Life Television and Hotwire Communications struck a national affiliation agreement. JLTV can be viewed on Channel 270 throughout Hotwire Communications’ footprint, which includes a majority of the North and Southeastern United States, including Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, New York, New Jersey, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

CASTING

Patricia Arquette will star in the first season of The Act, Hulu’s new anthology series from writers Nick Antosca and Michelle Dean and Universal Cable Productions that tells stranger-than-fiction true crime stories, reports Deadline….Timothy Dalton nabbed a starring role in DC Universe’s Doom Patrol, slated to debut in 2019… Kali Rocha was promoted to series regular in the upcoming third season of CBS’ Man with a Plan… Ken Leung (Lost) will recur on the sixth season of NBC’s Blacklist… Black Lighting cast Sofia Vassilieva (Medium, Supergirl) as a DC Comics hero in The CW series’ second season.

DIGITAL DOINGS

Black Love creators Codie Oliver and Tommy Oliver launched new website BlackLove.com, which looks to establish itself as the digital destination for content created specifically for the Black community. The focus will be on fostering healthy dialogue on topics like dating, health and sexuality, marriage, parenting, self-love and men’s lifestyle.

Billy Eichner’s Billy on the Street, which left TruTV a year ago, is returning as an on-line exclusive series. New episodes will be available on Eichner’s social media platforms, including Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, as well as the Billy on the Street YouTube channel, Funny Or Die’s social media platforms and FunnyOrDie.com.

Via a multi-year partnership deal, FuboTV added VSiN (Vegas Stats & Information Network) to its sports-first streaming TV service. VSiN is the first media network dedicated to sports gambling information.

RATINGS

Pre-emptions for breaking news, sinking pre-Labor Day viewing levels and a heavy dose of reruns threw off ratings in the summer session ending August 26. Talk shows were once again led by Dr. Phil (2.5 Live+SD national Nielsen rating, down 4% from the week before), extending its winning streak in the category to 103 weeks and rising 10% in the key W25-54 demo. Live With Kelly and Ryan (1.9, down 5%) secured sole possession of second place for the tenth week in a row and climbed 10% in the demo. Ellen DeGeneres (1.5, unchanged) came in third

Meanwhile, some of the off-net sitcoms showed some spark.Last Man Standing (2.1, up 5%), Modern Family (1.9, up 6%), Two and a Half Men (1.5, up 7%) and Family Guy (1.5, up 7%) were all in the plus column. The Big Bang Theory (4.1, unchanged) continued to lead the comedies.

The finale of Food Network’s The Great Food Truck Race ranked #3 among cable programs on Thursday at 9p among P25-54 and #2 among W25-54 in Live+3 Nielsens. Season 9 averaged a 0.9 rating for P25-54, the highest-rated season since 2013.
