The songwriting competition is averaging a 1.1 rating among A18-49 and 5.1 million total viewers in Live+7 Nielsens so far this season, and has produced six songs that hit a #1 ranking on the iTunes music chart. Apple released a launch date for its forthcoming streaming service. Apple TV+ will make its debut on November 1 at an introductory price of $4.99 per month and will be available in over 100 countries. The service will roll out its first original series at launch, then add more each month, shared CEO Tim Cook during the company’s product event at its Cupertino headquarters. As part of its Stop Bullying: Speak Up initiative, Cartoon Network is partnering with PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center and 826 National to inspire kids to make a difference and include someone at lunch, recess or wherever it’s needed most. The collaboration comes to life through a joint campaign, Include Someone: Make a Difference, which kicks off this fall in recognition of October’s National Bullying Prevention Month. HGTV’s digital platforms are giving Brady Bunch fans exclusive behind-the-scenes footage from the production of A Very Brady Renovation. Six online packages include a glimpse into the personal lives of the show’s cast, untold stories from family members of series creator Sherwood Schwartz, and 70s inspired DIY projects. Kicking off the morning during the Breakfast with the Brands panel, Oman Quinones, Chief Strategic Officer, La Reyna, observed that, “Casting can become a proxy for diversity.” The panel agreed that having diversity behind the camera is key to achieving meaningful diversity onscreen. During the Next Big Breakthroughs session, Tyler Moody, GM and VP, WarnerMedia Podcast Network, said of podcasting, “It’s been the next big thing year after year,” but has “finally reached the tipping point of mass consumption.” As for the next big trend? “The big question is, what will capture the attention of all those Game of Thrones viewers?” said Shana Krochmal, Head of Digital. PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT Food Network picked up Delicious Miss Brown for a 13-episode second season. The daytime series stars contemporary Southern cook Kardea Brown. Spyglass Media Group’s TV division optioned Stephen King’s latest novel, The Institute, attaching David E. Kelley to adapt and executive produce the limited series, with Jack Bender (Lost) serving as director and executive producer. In addition, Spyglass set a multi-year first look deal with Bender to develop future projects. Disney Channel ordered a second season of hybrid improv/scripted comedy series Just Roll With It and entered an overall development deal with the show’s creators and executive producers, Adam Small and Trevor Moore. The pair will write and produce programming for Disney Channel and Disney+. The Day The World Changed is being developed by filmmakers Steven Rosenbaum (7 Days in September) and Pamela Yoder (Witness 9/11) and MagnifyMedia, reports Deadline. The 8-episode docu-series tracks the design, curation and construction of the National 9/11 Memorial & Museum. The project is set to be completed in time for the 20th anniversary of 9/11 in 2021. Disney+ has nixed Muppets Live Another Day. The ABC Signature-produced scripted comedy series, written and executive produced by Josh Gad (Frozen) and Once Upon A Time creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis, had been in the works at the upcoming streaming platform with a pilot order. STREAMING AMC Networks’ streaming destination, Shudder, debuts Tigers Are Not Afraid on Thursday, September 12. The film, from writer/director Issa Lopez, is set against the backdrop of Mexico’s drug wars and follows a group of orphaned children armed with three magical wishes. The National Football League announced a new partnership with Reddit Inc. that will include a series of “Ask Me Anything” discussions, as well as content and advertising. The series will feature current and former NFL players, league executives, team personnel and famous fans, among others, according to The Wall Street Journal. The NFL plans to run at least one Ask Me Anything a month during the season. Farmers Insurance joined Sesame Street’s 50th celebration with an ad campaign that debuted on September 9 and integrated the show’s characters into the world of Farmers’ “We Know From Experience” initiative. Spots will air on broadcast networks during college football, MLB and NFL games, in-theater and will also be supported digitally with presence on Hulu and Buzzfeed. Farmers is also a sponsor of a short-form video series on Sesame Street’s YouTube channel, which focuses on problem solving. Asians continue to led the market when it come to streaming TV content, according to the latest FOCUS Asian: The Media Landscape 2019 report from Horowitz Research. The report, which covers TV and video subscriptions, viewing behaviors, attitudes toward TV content and more, found that 8 in 10 (78%) Asian TV content viewers are streamers, compared to 65% of TV content viewers overall. Also, overall, the average Asian content viewer spends more than half (52%) of their viewing time with streamed content, while just 39% of content is watched live through traditional TV platforms. Moreover, 1 in 4 Asians stream all their content.
