John Grisham legal thriller The Partner nabbed a script commitment with penalty from Fox. Drama project comes from writer Jon Cowan (Suits), Davis Entertainment (The Blacklist) and Sony Pictures Television.
 
The gang’s all here: ABC gave a put pilot commitment to The Heiresses, based on the novel by author Sara Shepard. Shepard also penned the books that gave birth to Freeform hit Pretty Little Liars. PPL’s I. Marlene King will write, while the series’ Shay Mitchell is set to star. Alloy Entertainment is co-producing with Long Lake Media in association with Warner Bros. Television.
 
Wilmer Valderrama and his WV Entertainment landed film and TV rights to Patriots from the Barrio, reports Deadline. The book tells the story of a segregated U.S. Army combat unit of Mexican Americans that was part of the first division to land in Europe in World War II.
 
The Disney Channel announced a musical version of Freaky Friday, based on the stage adaptation. Heidi Blickenstaff (who played the mom in the stage production) and Cozi Zuehlsdorff (Liv and Maddie) will star. The new version set to begin production this fall for a 2018 debut as part of the Disney Channel Original Movie franchise.
 
Jerrod Carmichael inked and overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television, the studio behind NBC’s cancelled The Carmichael Show. Carmichael will write and produce as well as potentially star in new projects.

ID sets the dial to scary with the October premieres of new series Home Alone on Thursday, October 12 at 10p, Horror at the Cecil Hotel on Monday, October 16 at 10p and The Murder Castle on Saturday, October 28 at 8p. Season 2 of Dead Silent launches Tuesday, October 17 at 10p.
 
Guy Fieri searches for Food Network’s next culinary/travel series in Guy’s Big Project, launching Sunday, November 5 at 9p. Over 6 episodes, the Diners, Drive-ins and Dives star shepherds a group of prospects eager to see their concepts come to life. Podcast Deadly Manners arrives on AMC Networks streaming platforms Sundance Now and Shudder tomorrow, October 3. NBC’s Will & Grace returned to Thursday as the top entertainment program of the night, with a 3.0 rating among A18-49 and 10.2 million viewers. (That beats the season 8 premiere in 2005, which drew 9.81 million viewers.)
 
With a guest lineup that included Steve Bannon, Bill O’Reilly, Paul Ryan and Rush Limbaugh, Fox News’s Hannity topped cable news networks its first week back at 9p, averaging 3.498 million total viewers and 713,000 among A25-54 Monday-Thursday. Hannity snatched the ratings crown from MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show, which averaged 2.649 million views and 599,000 in the demo.
 
Scripps Networks Interactive reports HGTV delivered its 2nd highest-rated season ever among A25-54, behind last year’s best-ever season, ranking as the No. 2 cable network among W25-54, and No. 7 among A25-54. In addition, HGTV was the No. 1 cable network among upscale W25-54, and No. 3 among upscale A25-54. Food Network finished the 2016-17 season ranked as the No. 7 cable network among W25-54, improving two spots over last season, and ranking No. 10 among W18-49. For 3Q17, the network ranked as the No. 10 cable network among upscale W25-54. 
 
Also making Scripps execs smile: Travel Channel concluded the 2016-17 season up 5 percent over last season among A25-54, while M25-54 grew 10 percent, and DIY Network completed the 2016-17 season up 7 percent among W25-54. Cooking Channel finished the 2016-17 season up 9 percent over the prior season among A25-54, with W25-54 up 3 percent and M25-54 up 19 percent, while Great American Country closed the 2016-17 season up 10 percent versus last season among A25-54, up 14 percent among M25-54, and up 11 percent among A25-34.  
 
The premiere of ABC's The Good Doctor on Monday delivered the largest Live+3 increase in total viewers (+5.5 million) for any new series debut on the network in 3 years, since How to Get Away With Murder.  
 
In Live+7 Nielsens, the time period premiere of Fox’s The Orville posted a 2.0/8 rating among A18-49, a lift of 82% versus Live+SD, while the season premiere of Gotham rose 70% (to 1.7/7) in the demo.

Keith Dawkins is leaving Nickelodeon, where he held the role of Executive Vice President and head of TeenNick and Nicktoons, to become CEO of The First Tee, a nonprofit founded by the PGA. Dawkins will replace the retiring Joe Louis Barrow, Jr.
 

IN MEMORIAM
 
Monty Hall, co-creator and long-time host of game show Let's Make a Deal, died September 30 of heart failure. He was 96. Though best known for his television work, his family said Hall helped raise almost $1 billion for charity over the course of his life. 
Lou Reda, founder of Lou Reda Productions, passed away Saturday, September 30. He was 92. The World War II Navy veteran was best known for his documentaries on war.
