NBC News President Noah Oppenheim didn’t mince words in an email to staff on Monday addressing allegations in Ronan Farrow’s book, “Catch and Kill”. While Farrow claims that NBC News management knew about, and took steps to hide, Matt Lauer’s sexual misconduct before his firing in 2017, “Matt Lauer’s actions were abhorrent, and the anger and sadness he caused continues to this day,” Oppenheim told employees. “As we’ve said since the moment he was fired, his abuses should never have happened. Ronan Farrow’s book takes that undeniable fact and twists it into a lie – alleging we were a ‘company with a lot of secrets.’...Farrow’s effort to defame NBC News is clearly motivated not by a pursuit for truth, but an axe to grind. It is built on a series of distortions, confused timelines, and outright inaccuracies.” Farrow, who has alleged NBC stopped his reporting on Harvey Weinstein, responded to the email on CBS This Morning, saying, “I’ll let the reporting in the book stand on its own.” Fox News also found itself batting back, after former FNC reporter Carl Cameron reacted to the exit of Fox News anchor Shepard Smith by telling MSNBC’s Ari Melber that without Smith’s show, much of the rest of the net’s programming was “propaganda, and that’s the stuff of Third World nations.” In a statement to MediaLite, Fox News said, “Tell that to Jennifer Griffin whose report just went viral this week. Or Chris Wallace, Bret Baier, Bill Hemmer, Martha MacCallum or Catherine Herridge who have all done outstanding journalism. Carl Cameron left the network because he was no longer able to show up to work each day – he has a very short memory for our endless compassion.” A violent video shown at a conference of President Trump supporters at Trump National Doral in Miami was not Trump-endorsed, said a campaign spokesman. In the video, a gunman walks through the “Church of Fake News” stabbing and beating members of the media as well as Trump rivals and critics. White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham said the president had not seen the video, but “based on everything he has heard, he strongly condemns it.” Call for Judges: Entries are ramping up for the Inaugural Cynopsis Best Of The Best Awards and we are currently screening industry experts who are passionate about the space to join our judging panel. Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders offered a plan on Monday to “end corporate corruption and greed” that includes breaking up monopolies, and singled out Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox and the merger deal between T-Mobile and Sprint as examples of “gross concentration of power.” Sanders noted that had his plan been in effect last year, Amazon would have paid $3.8 billion in taxes, instead of nothing. Centro announced the availability of a two-way API integration with FreeWheel, pairing Centro’s Basis digital media activation and management platform with FreeWheel’s Strata platform for finance management. Basis sends contracts, media activation and delivery data into Strata for billing and reconciliation in real-time, with the information automatically rationalized and formatted. “With industry complexity continuing to increase and brands attempting to pay agencies less for their services, it’s critical that software companies work together to automate as much of the manual processes as possible,” said Shawn Riegsecker, founder and CEO, Centro. “The FreeWheel integration with Basis is a huge first step in marrying platforms for traditional media and digital media, so agencies can focus on value-additive, strategic and important work.” A new integration allows sharing of text, link and image-based posts on iOS from Reddit’s “Safe for Work” to Spapchat. Reddit users who have Snapchat installed in their device can tap the “Share” icon on posts in the Reddit iOS app, and select the Snapchat option. “With this integration, Snapchatters will be able to share interesting posts they find, adding new context and conversation-starters to their Snaps,” said Ben Schwerin, VP of Partnerships at Snap Inc. “As shared Snaps drive engagement back to Reddit - this helps advance the power of community and connection across both platforms.” Snapchat is the first platform partner for the content sharing test. STREAMING SNIPPETS Tubi shared two pieces of news: The service will launch in the UK in early 2020, and Tubi Kids, a new area of Tubi that will feature a free library of children’s content in a dedicated section built for families, arrives October 21. “We’re ramping up our international expansion with the UK launch being the first of several forthcoming territories and look forward to announcing them soon,” said Farhad Massoudi, CEO of Tubi. “The launch of Tubi Kids reinforces our dedication to offer an age-appropriate viewing environment – super-serving kids and families with a robust amount of content.” Poker Central’s direct-to-consumer OTT subscription service, PokerGO, will provide coverage of World Series of Poker Europe events from October 16-31. Action takes place in Rozvadov, Czech Republic. |
