PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
 
Somos Productions, Boomdog, Piñolywood Studios and Endemol Shine Latino are teaming to produce the first-ever scripted drama series based on the story of Latin boy band Menudo. Season one of Subete a Mi Moto -The History of Menudo focuses on the formation of the group and its dizzying rise to fame.
 
Nancy Drew, based on the children’s detective series, is in (re)development at NBC, from Tony Phelan and Joan Rater (Doubt), Dan Jinks and CBS Television Studios. It’s not to be mistaken for the team’s CBS pilot of the same name last year - this project offers a new take on the source material.
 
A drama from Mila KunisOrchard Farm Productions is in development at ABC, written by William Harper (Grey’s Anatomy). Show centers on an unappreciated wife and mom who finds new purpose as the protegee of a sexy private investigator.
 
 
NEW & RETURNING SERIES
 
The Alienist, a co-production between Paramount Television and Turner’s Studio T, launches Monday, January 22 at 9p across TNT’s platforms. Period drama/psychological thriller stars Daniel Brühl (Rush), Luke Evans (The Girl on The Train), Dakota Fanning (American Pastoral) and Brian Geraghty (The Hurt Locker). 
 
It’s a family affair on 5-part Property Brothers: Drew’s Honeymoon House, launching Wednesday, November 22 at 9p. The Scott clan bands together for the massive renovation of an historic LA house, hoping to set things rigth in time for a pre-wedding bash.
 
The premiere date for A&E’s Who Killed Tupac? is Tuesday, November 21 at 9p. The limited series, following an investigation 20 years after the death of the rapper/actor, falls under A&E’s recently relaunched “Biography” banner.
 
Season 2 of ID’s People Magazine Investigates premieres Monday, November 6 at 10p, with the case of the Golden Gate Killer.
 
Martial artist and actor Michael Jai White (Spawn) is set to narrate El Rey Network’s new Bushido Battleground, showcasing elite fighters from around the world in Mixed Martial Arts, submission Jiu Jitsu, full contact Kick Boxing and Muay Thai.  Series debuts Wednesday, October 18 at 10p

Think small: 53% of all internet ad dollars will go to spots viewed on mobile, projects Zenith Mobile’s Advertising Forecast for 2017. In the 52 countries covered, 66% of respondents will own a smartphone in 2018, up from 58% in 2016. And that means more ways for consumers to connect with content anywhere they are. “Some of these contacts take the form of paid advertising in third-party content,” notes the report, “but mobile technology is also enabling broader brand experiences, such as branded content and social media engagement.”
 
Adding 850,000 new U.S. subscribers, Netflix reached 52.77 million in 3Q17. International growth was even better, up 4.45 million for a total of 56.48 million. Not surprisingly, stock hit a record high, up 1.6% to hit $202.59.

Liv Tyler (The Leftovers) has joined the season 2 cast of Hulu’s Harlots as a series regular….Former Daily Show correspondent Wyatt Cenac will lead a late night HBO comedic docu-series exec produced by John Oliver, slated to premiere in spring 2018….Owen Teague is the third It alum to join Hulu pilot Locke & Key, directed by the horror film’s Andy Muschetti. The film’s Jackson Robert Scott and Megan Charpentier are already onboard.

Eurocinema World founders Sebastien Perioche and Jacques Perioche are launching a short format content app, FlixSnip. Set to debut in December 2017, the FlixSnip app and exclusive content in genres including drama, animation, children’s, family, comedy, science fiction and horror will be available to cable operators, telcos, OTT, mobile and VOD platforms worldwide. FlixSnip will also be available to video streaming services like Hulu, Amazon, Google Play, Apple TV and Facebook Watch. 
 
 
ADVERTISING  & BRANDS
 
Over 40 execs from TV content companies including ABC, A+E Networks, AMC Networks, CBS, Fox, Discovery Communications, Hallmark channels, Turner, Viacom and more met last week and agreed to continue to collaborate on possible activation of a new multi-touch attribution measurement model developed by Data Plus Math. The goal of Project Thor is to provide advertisers with sales impact from premium, multi-screen TV video advertising. “We’ve been clamoring for a great industry-level provider on attribution for an obvious reason – we fully believe that when the TV ad platform’s effect on sales outcomes can be widely known, we’ll have the sophisticated data advertisers want in order to double-down on the TV ad platform,” said Video Advertising Bureau president Sean Cunningham after the meeting.
 
Toyota is partnering with Discovery VR and Google’s VR team for new virtual reality series, Discovery TRVLR. The 38-episode series, exploring unique cultures and obscure traditions across the globe, launches Friday, November on YouTube DiscoveryVR.com and the Discovery VR app. “Toyota has consistently supported new and emerging platforms like Discovery VR that share our commitment to drive innovation and exploration through storytelling,” said Nancy Inouye, national media manager, Toyota Motor North America.

ProSiebenSat.1 and Discovery Communications have launched a premium entertainment streaming service in Germany, with 9 terrestrial TV channels. A broad range of original and premium TV shows will be available free; AVOD service is available on the existing ProSiebenSat.1 7TV brand digital platform and app. 7TV is also planning to launch a Eurosport Zone where viewers will be able to watch selected sports highlights and clips. 
 
dick clark productions is partnering with China’s Alibaba Group to promote the 2017 American Music Awards. In advance of the show, artists will be showcased across Alibaba entities (combined reach: nearly 500 million active users), drawing consumers to the video-streaming site Youko, which will live stream the show.
 
TAC Studios, a production arm of The Africa Channel, inked international content licensing deals with Viasat World and Kwese TV. Viasat acquired two seasons of Africa on a Plate, while Kwese nabbed complete seasons of 4 other shows.
 
Talpa “global reality format” Lost in Translation will leave 12 competitors on a remote island, with 30 days to find a treasure - but each contestant will find only one other person who speaks their language. The series is one production, with adaptations for each participating country.
 
Atrium TV’s slate of projects includes Quasimodo, from Frank Doelger (Game of Thrones) and Jerusalem, written by former Universal Television head of drama development Russell Rothberg.
 
Alchimie will distribute 75 documentaries from ZDF Enterprises on the German version of Alchimie’s premium OTT service: Watch it!. Catalogue covers nature, science, history and culture.
