While Sunnyside debuted to a low 0.4 among A18-49 and 1.78 million viewers, the rating for its premiere has grown 150% in digital play, and the series boasts the #4 most educated and #3 most affluent audience among broadcast shows, reports the net. On Thursday, October 24, Will & Grace will launch its eleventh and final season in Sunnyside’s 9:30p timeslot. A report that Shari Redstone, vice chairwoman of CBS and Viacom, is exploring the idea of launching a conservative news network on Viacom is inaccurate, said the net. “Viacom has no intention of launching a TV news channel, conservative or otherwise,” stated a rep. Redstone’s spokesperson also denied the report, but confirmed she had recently met with President Trump, who has floated the idea of starting a new network. “Fake news” was a real issue for 86% of respondents in a survey from Freckle, a privacy-compliant data and measurement company; 46% of those surveyed said they are less trusting of traditional news outlets than they were in 2018. As for social media, data privacy concerns highly impacted trust of social media for 66%. “One of the major takeaways of our research was that never has there been a more sensitive time between consumers and their sentiment towards privacy, trust and information,” Neil Sweeney, founder and CEO, Freckle, tells Cynopsis. “Consumers are becoming increasingly untrusting of who has their data and how it is being used. As they become more aware of how their data is being captured and used, consumers are looking for ways to regain control of their personal information. When asked about social media- data privacy concerns highly impacted respondents trust of social media by more than half of respondents. This is significant and calls for more pointed consumer solutions that provide them with control of their data, how it’s shared or used and the ability to profit from their data- something they are weren’t able to do until now.” Twitter responded to calls from some – most notably Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris – who think President Trump’s Twitter account should be suspended for objectionable content, by saying the messages of world leaders are of public interest. While “the accounts of world leaders are not above our policies entirely,” said Twitter, they can stay online if they have a clear public value. “We recognize that we're operating in an increasingly complex and polarized political culture," said the company in a blog post. “These are constantly evolving challenges and we'll keep our policies and approach under advisement.” In the most recent Democratic debate, Harris said Trump’s account had been used to “intimidate and threaten witnesses.” Netflix is being sued over its Steven Soderbergh movie, The Laundromat, by two partners in a now-dissolved Panamanian law firm who allege the film defames them, portraying them as “ruthless uncaring lawyers who are in involved in...criminal misconduct.” The law firm was shuttered in March after disclosures of its role in global tax evasion. Film stars Meryl Streep, Sharon Stone, Antonio Banderas and Gary Oldman, and is set to premiere on the streamer on Friday, October 18. The SAG-AFTRA board approved a new three-year music video contract. Deal includes new set minimums, protections against sexual harassment and better wages for background performers. Augmented Reality is poised for a significant consumer breakthrough, according to an online survey by eyecandylab, Dynata and XR scholars that revealed substantial interest in video-triggered AR. The technology uses video signals like TV broadcasts to launch relevant AR content and enable interactivity through a mobile device synchronized with the TV program. (For example, sports fans could point their phone at a game to get additional statistics, while shoppers could point their phone at a product featured in a program to get more info or make a purchase.) “To this point, AR has been primarily embraced by the enterprise market for applications like field training and remote assistance,” said Prof. Dr. Philipp A. Rauschnabel from Bundeswehr University Munich in Germany. “By contrast, consumer applications have largely failed to reach critical mass. However, this study reveals an enthusiastic consumer response to video-triggered AR for applications like sports and shopping, which suggest that the next wave of AR success may come sooner than expected.” Video software provider Synamedia and Triveni Digital, provider of program guide and metadata management, data broadcasting and service quality assurance solutions, are partnering to help customers to transition to ATSC 3.0.
