IN THE NEWS Fixer Upper stars Chip and Joanna Gaines are teaming with Discovery Inc. to start their own lifestyle-focused network. “We’re excited to be back,” Chip Gaines told The Tonight Show’s Jimmy Fallon on Friday (after which Joanna posted on Instagram, “Ummm @chipgaines may or may not have gotten a little ahead of himself and let the cat out of the bag about something big”). “We are currently in the early stages of talking with Discovery about a lifestyle-focused media network,” said a spokesperson for Gaines brand Magnolia. “The details surrounding this opportunity remain a work in progress, but together, our hope is to build a different kind of platform for unique, inspiring and family-friendly content.” The Gaineses announced last year they were ending their HGTV series to focus on their family and many businesses - a Target product line, books, magazine, restaurant, and tourist destination Magnolia Market at the Silos in Waco, Texas, to name a few. It may not be over forNetflix’s Orange Is the New Black, headed into its seventh and final season. During the company’s earnings call, Lionsgate Television Group chairman Kevin Beggs told reporters, “We’re already in discussions and when the timing is right, we’ll talk further with [OITNB creator Jenji Kohan] about a potential sequel.” WarnerMediahas approachedNBCUniversal about the possibility of licensing content for its planned streaming service, according to The Information. The move to expand program options on the service, set to launch in late 2019, comes as Disney plans the debut of its own streaming service, bolstered by its upcoming acquisition 21st Century Fox assets. Tribune Media posted strong 3Q18 results, beating analysts’ expectations with earnings per share of 61 cents, and an 11% rise in revenue to $498 million. Political advertising revenue came in at $42.5 million, up 90% from the last midterm election. For the zombie lover on your gift list, AMC’s new offerings include an exclusive Christmas sweater, bobbleheads, fine art from illustrator Brian Rood, figurines, collectibles, keepsake ornaments. Paramount Ranch, a setting for many TV shows and movies, including HBO’s Westworld, burned down on Friday in California’s devastating Woolsey fire. HBO said Westworld is not in production and, “Most importantly, our thoughts go out to all those affected by these horrible fires.” Controversy over? Texas congressman-elect Dan Crenshaw, the former Navy SEAL who lost an eye while on duty in Afghanistan, accepted an on-air apology from SNL’s Pete Davidson, who the week before had joked about Crenshaw’s looks. Crenshaw also got a few jabs in himself (“Pete looks like if the meth from Breaking Bad were a person”), before urging Americans to “remember what brings up together as a country and still see the good in each other.” Top 10 Weekend Domestic Box Office Estimates: November 9-11, 2018 Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch (Universal) $66.0 million, opening weekend Bohemian Rhapsody (Fox) $30.9 million (week 2), cume revenue $100.0 million Overlord (Paramount) $10.1 million, opening weekend The Nutcracker and the Four Realms (Buena Vista) $9.6 million (week 2), cume revenue $35.3 million The Girl in the Spider’s Web: A New Dragon Tattoo Story (Sony) $8.0 million, opening weekend A Star Is Born (Warner Bros.) $8.0 million (week 6), cume revenue $178.0 million Nobody’s Fool (Paramount) $6.5 million (week 2), cume revenue $24.3 million Venom (Sony) $4.9 million (week 6), cume revenue $206.2 million Halloween (Universal) $3.8 million (week 4), cume revenue $156.8 million The Hate U Give (Fox) $2.1 million (week 6), cume revenue $18.3 million Source: comScore RETURNING SERIES The season six premiere of NBC’s The Blacklist is set for Friday, January 4, with a special two-hour episode that starts at 8p.
