IN THE NEWS Jerry Springer plays judge in court show Judge Jerry, debuting in syndication in fall 2019. “For the first time in my life, I am going to be called honorable,” said Springer. “My career is coming full circle and I finally get to put my law degree to use after all these years.” Launched by NBCUniversal Television Distribution, the daily first-run program has been sold in 75% of the U.S. to station groups including Tribune, Sinclair, Weigel, Hearst, Cox, Raycom, Tegna, Scripps and more. Also headed to syndication in the fall is 25 Words or Less, a game show hosted by Meredith Vieira that had a summer test run on the Fox TV Stations and is cleared in 40% of the country so far. “We’re pulling for a hit here,” said Frank Cicha, Fox TV Stations’ SVP of Programming, “because it feels like 25 shows or more since there’s been one in syndication.” According to a New York Post report, Strauss Zelnick, CBS chairman and head of Take-Two Interactive, is a leading contender to run a merged CBS and Viacom. A source tells the paper when CBS completes its search for a permanent CEO to replace Les Moonves early next year, merger talks will begin. Bob Bakish is Viacom CEO and Joe Ianniello is serving as interim CEO for CBS. Fox will air the 2019 Emmy Awards Show on Sunday, September 22, from the Microsoft Theater in LA. It’s a return to the show’s traditional Sunday-before-premiere-week berth – last year’s ceremony on NBC was held on Monday, so as not to disrupt the Sunday Night Football airing. Claiming CNN “has a powerful voice portraying the United States in an unfair and false way,” President Trump in a Monday tweet suggested another option: The government could start its own worldwide network, “to show the World the way we really are, GREAT!” With viewers watching around the world, NASA’s InSight spacecraft landed on Mars yesterday. As it did last year, ABC will simulcast ESPN’s presentation on Day 3. Draft is scheduled for April 25-27 in Nashville. NBC Bay Area/KNTV and Telemundo 48 Área de la Bahía/KSTS are partnering with United Way Bay Area to host an all-day fundraiser today to assist relief and recovery operations for people affected by the devastating wildfires in Northern and Southern California. The televised fundraising event will help raise money for disaster relief funds established by United Way of Northern California, United Way of Ventura County and United Way of Greater LA. |
