IN THE NEWS Thanks to ID, a cold case in Chicago is heating up. Following the airing of the true crime net’s two-part special, Cold Valley, new tips from around the country have prompted the Chicago PD to reopen the case of 8-year-old murder victim Diane Taylor. “At ID, we are very proud to have served as a catalyst in putting these cold cases on a path to being solved,” Henry Schleiff, Group President of ID, Travel Channel, American Heroes Channel and Destination America, tells Cynopsis. “Knowing that we have helped to shed new light on the events here underscores our efforts to be more than just an entertaining and successful network but rather, one that on occasion can make a real difference in people’s lives. Indeed, we hope we have helped to bring some degree of closure for these families and remain optimistic that these investigations will now finally lead to their just conclusion.” BET is not renewing scripted series Hit the Floor for season five. “We are grateful to the most passionate fans ever who helped to bring one more season of the #DevilsNation to the screen, and the incredible cast and dancers,” said a network spokesperson. Hit the Floor spent its first three seasons on BET’s Viacom sib, VH1. The first group of season six, Danny Masterson-less episodes of The Ranch dropped on Netflix Friday, and original co-star Masterson, forced out after allegations of sexual assault against him, urged viewers to stay tuned to the comedy. “The cast is beyond incredible,” posted Masterson on Instagram. “The writers were given the ultimate worst case scenario and instead of throwing in the towel they worked longer hours to create new heartbreaking and hysterical story lines.” Masterson, who exec-produced as well as starred on The Ranch with Ashton Kutcher, has denied the claims against him. Kevin Hart stepped down as Oscars host following backlash over years-old homophobic comments he’d made on Twitter. While Hart first posted that he had “passed” on offering an apology in order to keep his hosting gig, explaining that he’s already addressed the tweets and is “in a completely different place in my life,” later on Friday he announced his decision to exit. He also apologized to the LGBTQ community for “insensitive words from my past.” Hart shouldn’t have stepped down, “He should have stepped up,” said GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. “Hart’s apology to LGBTQ people is an important step forward, but he missed a real opportunity to use his platform and the Oscars stage to build unity and awareness. We would still welcome that conversation with him.” President Trump chose former Fox News host Heather Nauert to replace Nikki R. Haley as ambassador to the United Nations. Nauert has been serving as the chief State Department spokesperson since 2017. Tara Reid is suing Syfy and the producers of Sharknado for using her likeness on slot machines. According to the $100 million lawsuit, Reid’s contract for The Last Sharknado: It’s About Time stated her likeness could not be used for merchandising in association with alcohol, tobacco, gambling, hygiene or sexual products without her permission. |
