Indycar will open the 2019 season flush with new deals that will bring racing action to around 100 countries. Driven by Indycar Media, nations reaching agreements to broadcast INDYCAR content in 2019 include Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan, Spain, Sweden, France, New Zealand and Brazil. Canada’s deal with Sportsnet will see fans now able to consume NTT IndyCar Series races and qualifying sessions on SN NOW+, Sportsnet’s direct-to-consumer platform. In the UK, NTT IndyCar Series races, practices and qualifying sessions will air on Sky Sports F1. In addition to full-season coverage on linear pay television in Japan and Spain, the Indianapolis 500 also will air on free-to-air television in both countries with NHK and #Vamos (Movistar), respectively. INDYCAR will expand into the Nordics in 2019, and NTT IndyCar Series races can be seen live on Viasat channels in Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway. Meanwhile, DAZN will show NTT IndyCar Series races in Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Brazil.
 
Stateside, NBC Sports begins its first full season as the home of Indycar with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on Sunday at 1:30p and pre-race coverage at 12:30p with Countdown to Green on NBCSN. NBC Sports’ lead Indycar broadcast team of Leigh Diffey (play-by-play), Townsend Bell (analyst), and Paul Tracy (analyst) will have the call
 
 
PROGRAMMING

ESPN announced that it is “strengthening its commitment” to Baseball Tonight as it returns for season 30 of MLB coverage, offering more shows, a deeper roster and added daily segments within SportsCenter. Baseball Tonight will increase its number of roadshows this season as it airs live episodes from events that include the Boston Red Sox home-opener, the All-Star Game; Men’s and Women’s College World Series; the Little League World Series and more. ESPN also unveiled the Baseball Tonight Report – a new, daily segment airing within SportsCenter episodes throughout the day.
 
CBS Sports locked in talent for its conference tournament championship coverage highlighted by four automatic bids awarded to the 2019 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship as the Big Ten, Missouri Valley, Mountain West and Atlantic 10. Programming begins with the Missouri Valley Championship on Sunday at 2p, with Kevin Harlan, Dan Bonner and Melanie Collins on the call. The Big Ten Tournament will see Jim Nantz, Bill Raftery and Grant Hill will have the call with Tracy Wolfson starting March 16. The Mountain West Championship features Harlan and Bonner, along with reporter Evan Washburn on March 16. Ian Eagle and Jim Spanarkel, along with reporter Jamie Erdahl, will call the Atlantic 10 Championship Game on March 17.
 
The World Poker Tour announced a five-year strategic alliance with TV Azteca to bring WPT’s poker content library to a Latin America audience. In addition, the WPT’s sister company, Allied Esports, and Grupo Salinas have entered into an agreement to work toward developing and launching an esports strategy in Mexico. TV Azteca’s multimedia network will promote the WPT, and in partnership with Grupo Salinas’ companies, the World Poker Tour will introduce its premier poker events throughout Mexico. Further, WPT will license its brand to TV Azteca to develop social poker and gaming products customized exclusively for the Latin America marketplace. TV Azteca will also introduce a Spanish-language WPT-branded social poker game that will be expanded to include poker, casino games, education, and be signed to become a social gaming hub for the region. 
 
AXS TV renewed its original series WOW-Women Of Wrestling from Los Angeles Lakers Owner Jeanie Buss and David McLane, for a second season. The Network upped its order to 24 additional episodes from the initial eight in the first season. The season finale runs Friday at 9p.
 
Major League Baseball and the players' union are near an agreement to expand active rosters by one to 26 starting in 2020, according to the AP, as part of a deal that would “include a commitment to discuss larger economic issues after opening day this year.” As part of the deal, the active limit from Sept. 1 to the end of the season would be lowered from The agreement also would include -starting extra innings of the All-Star Game with a runner on second base, giving MLB the right to shorten between-inning breaks and MLB agreeing not to pursue a pitch clock through the 2021 season.
 
NASCAR is pulling the Awards ceremony out of Las Vegas and taking its annual Champion’s Week to Nashville. The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Awards will be held Dec. 5 at the Music City Center. Meanwhile, NASCAR will move its Xfinity Series Awards and trucks series awards to Nov. 22.
 
ESPN Events, in conjunction with Rip City Management and Rose Quarter, is adding early-season men’s basketball event the inaugural Phil Knight Invitational to its roster. The annual event, slated to occur through 2021, will tipoff on Nov. 12, from the Moda Center in Portland, Ore., with Oklahoma facing Oregon State and Oregon playing Memphis
