Danica Patrick is heading to NBC Sports, where the former INDYCAR and NASCAR driver will serve as a studio analyst for the company’s inaugural coverage of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge on May 26 where she will join host Mike Tirico. Patrick will also participate in NBC Sports’ coverage of Indy 500 Pole Day on May 19. “Danica has a perspective unlike any other driver in the history of motorsports and will be a great addition to our first-ever coverage of the Indy 500,” said Sam Flood, Executive Producer and President, Production, NBC Sports & NBCSN. “She has proven to be as fearless with her opinions and analysis as she was in breaking barriers while racing in the most competitive motorsports circuits in the world.”
 
 
PROGRAMMING

ESPN reports that this year’s New York Life ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament set new records for the company, as the Duke/North Carolina semifinal and the Duke/Florida State championship game were propelled to become the most-viewed Champ Week games in ESPN history. According to Nielsen, Duke/North Carolina averaged 4,150,000 viewers, which in addition to setting a new viewership record for ESPN, was the most-viewed Champ Week game across networks this season. The championship game between Florida State-Duke matchup averaged 4,063,000 viewers, the second most-viewed Champ Week game in ESPN history. The second semifinal, which saw Florida State facing Virginia, averaged 1,618,000 viewers, up 76 percent in comparison to last year’s game on ESPN2.
 
MLB Network unveiled its programming plans for the 2019 MLB season, including 12 hours of live, wall-to-wall studio content on Opening Day on March 28. The day will begin at 9a with a special morning edition of Intentional Talk followed by the season debut of MLB Central at 10a as well as High Heat with Christopher Russo at noon MLB Tonight at 1p and Quick Pitch at 8p. The channel will televise more than 40 live games during the first month of the regular season, including Bryce Harper’s return to Washington, D.C. when the Phillies visit the Nationals on April 2.
 
Speaking of baseball, SiriusXM again takes on the MLB season with programming that includes live game broadcasts and the MLB Network Radio channel. Through SiriusXM’s digital agreement with MLB, the SiriusXM app offers a suite of 30 play-by-play channels dedicated to streaming the official radio broadcasts of every MLB team, giving fans access to both the home and visiting team broadcasts for every game. SiriusXM will celebrate Opening Day on March 28 with baseball-focused segments on its many sports channels. SiriusXM’s original and exclusive sports talk channels, including Mad Dog Sports Radio, SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio, ESPNU Radio on SiriusXM, SiriusXM Fight Nation, in addition to MLB Network Radio and others, will all feature baseball commentary and guests as the 2019 MLB season commences.
 
In tournament news, CBS Sports and Turner Sports will welcome University of Pittsburgh Head Coach Jeff Capel as a guest studio analyst for coverage of the 2019 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship airing across TBS, CBS, TNT and truTV.  Capel will join the Atlanta studio team – host Casey Stern and analysts Brendan Haywood, Candace Parker and Seth Davis today and tomorrow.
 
Meanwhile, Turner Podcast Network features Andy Katz, college basketball analyst and correspondent for the NCAA, to cover the NCAA March Madness tournament on his podcast, March Madness 365 with Andy Katz. This week’s edition sees Katz joined by former Michigan State star and NBA player, Steve Smith as he breaks down all of his March Madness picks and why.
 
The NBA announced that the Chinese and Croatian National Teams will join all 30 NBA teams to compete at MGM Resorts NBA Summer League 2019, marking the first time that the league will feature two international teams.  The 15th NBA Summer League will take place July 5-15 in Las Vegas. MGM Resorts NBA Summer League 2019 will be an 11-day, 83-game competition that opens with all 32 teams playing four preliminary games each. 
 
Karate Combat inked an exclusive deal with ProSieben to carry the full-contact karate league's events on ran FIGHTING and free-to-air on ProSeiben MAXX across Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Eight events from all over the world will air throughout 2019, live, near-live or on demand on the dedicated combat sports digital platform ran FIGHTING while selected events will be shown on ProSieben MAXX. Karate Combat: One World Center will debut on German-language Free TV on March 24.
 
The Alliance of American Football announced that the 2019 Alliance Championship will be played in Ford Center at The Star in Frisco. The Alliance Championship, which was originally scheduled to be played in Las Vegas, will be broadcast on CBS Television Network in primetime on April 27 at 8p.

The show will be released social channels and be available for viewing on select Alaska Airlines flights.

Oakley locked in a partnership with NFL quarterback, Patrick Mahomes II, who becomes the first ever football player to join Team Oakley. As part of the partnership, Mahomes will support the brand’s lens technology, PrizmTM and the quarterback will be featured in the brand’s See It in Prizm campaign.
 
The Sherwin-Williams Company signed a five-year extension that will take effect after next year’s tournament and continue its Valspar brand’s sponsorship of the Valspar Championship through 2025. In addition to the tournament sponsorship, Valspar will remain an Official Marketing Partner with the PGA TOUR as the “Official Paint Supplier” and Sherwin-Williams will continue to serve as a local presenting sponsor of the tournament.

Amazon announced the launch of MLB.TV on Prime Video Channels, allowing Prime members to subscribe to MLB.TV and stream regular season out-of-market baseball games live and on-demand, all from the Prime Video service. Prime members streaming MLB.TV on Fire TV devices (Fire TV Cube, Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Stick 4K, and Fire TV Edition) will have access to Prime Video’s exclusive X-Ray feature, which allows fans to access live in-game stats, team and player details and play-by-play information while they watch.
 
The NBA and YouTube announced the launch of the NBA’s first YouTube channel dedicated to fans in sub-Saharan Africa.  In addition to featuring two live games per week in primetime for the rest of the 2018-19 season, including the Playoffs, Conference Finals and The Finals, the NBA Africa YouTube channel will celebrate the impact of African players in the NBA.
