The birth of ESPN+ is prompting the end of ESPN Insider after a two-decade run, as the company notified subscribers that they would be switching Insider subscribers over to the new platform. The change will take place on Aug. 28, with the latest update to the ESPN App seeing all premium digital subscription content now labeled ESPN+. According to Variety, ESPN+ branding within the app and espn.com will now take the place of ESPN Insider and all content and features will be available in the same subscription. The goal, according to ESPN, is to simplify its digital direct-to-consumer subscription offerings to fans with a single service — while offering even more value in their subscription. There will be no changes to any subscriber’s subscription prices.
 
 
ON THE AIR

Former New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz is heading to ESPN as an NFL analyst. The Super Bowl champion officially announced his NFL retirement and his new ESPN role in a video on UNINTERRUPTED. Cruz will contribute to NFL Live, Get Up!, SportsCenter, ESPN Radio and other ESPN platforms year-round and will debut today at 9a Wednesday on both Get Up! and SportsCenter.
 
NBC Sports locked in plans as the PGA TOUR launches its season-culminating FedExCup Playoffs with a $10 million first-place prize on the line at the conclusion of next month’s TOUR Championship. Beginning with the opening round of The Northern Trust on Thursday, NBC Sports Group in total will showcase more than 70 hours of live tournament coverage spanning across the four playoff events – The Northern Trust, dell technologies Championship, BMW Championship and TOUR Championship - including the final three stops airing exclusively across Golf Channel and NBC.
 
NBC Sports debuts Peter King’s Football Morning in America Camp Tour, a two-episode television special chronicling his visits to NFL training camps starting Thursday at 9a on NBCSN. Both episodes will feature dozens of interviews with high-profile players, coaches, and executives, as well as revealing insights and unique experiences. Episode 2 will air Aug. 29 at noon.
 
Ahead of the 2018 college football season, FOX Sports revealed its lineup of announcers, analysts, hosts and reporters covering the schedule. Gus Johnson teams with Joel Klatt for the fourth consecutive year as FOX Sports’ lead college football game broadcasters, joined by reporter Jenny Taft. Also returning to the FOX Sports college football booth are Joe Davis, Brady Quinn and Bruce Feldman; Tim Brando, Spencer Tillman and Holly Sonders; Brian Custer and Ben Leber; and Justin Kutcher and Petros Papadakis, joined this season by broadcasting rookie DeMarco Murray. James Laurinaitis also joins FOX Sports to call select games. In studio, host Rob Stone is joined by Matt Leinart, Robert Smith, and Dave Wannstedt.
 
MMA promotion Combate Americas announced the opening of La Jaula Studios, a new multi-platform content production studio created to serve Hispanic Millennials and Generation Z. The new studio will be led by Stan Jakubowicz, who was recently promoted to Chief Content Officer, and will be based in New York.La Jaula Studios will produce authentic content in Spanish, English and Portuguese that complements Combate Americas’ programming with upcoming projects that include: Rootas, a docu-series chronicling the lives of six Combate Americas fighters; and The Real Deal, a major motion picture and docu-series chronicling the life and career of Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano.

Thursday will see NBA TV celebrate Kobe Bryant turning 40, with a Mamba marathon, starting at 3a with a rookie Bryant winning the Slam Dunk Contest title. Other shows will include him scoring 33 points in a duel with Michael Jordan, scoring 81 points in a single game, an interview with Ahmad Rashad and scoring 60 points in the final game of his career.
 
Pac-12 Network serves up a healthy dose of Football Kickoff Week, presented by Opus Bank, from Aug. 27-Sept. 2. Each day of the programming will include the return of Inside Pac-12 Football, presented by Maui Jim, and The Drive: Pac-12 Football as well as the launch of The Pregame, presented by 76, covering season-openers for Oregon, Utah and reigning Pac-12 Champion USC.

DIGITAL & STREAMING

Thirty Five Media, owned by NBA star Kevin Durant and business partner Rich Kleiman, and American Family Insurance are launching an online series titled Dream to Achieve. The four-part series “aims to inspire people to pursue their dreams. It showcases an impressive line-up of guests who demonstrate the success that can come with hard work and determination.” The first two episodes in the series will go live on Kevin Durant’s YouTube channel and feature Kimberly Bryant (CEO of Black Girls Code), Idalin Bobe (Founder, TechActivist.Org), Adrian Aoun (CEO and Founder, Forward) and Fritz Lanman (Investor & ClassPass CEO).
 
Mars Reel announced the completion of its initial $4.7M funding round with new investment from influential digital media company Otter Media, which recently became a unit of WarnerMedia. In addition to its cash investment, Otter Media will also serve as an advisor and strategic partner for Mars Reel in several areas of growth. Notable figures in the round included Drake and Dwyane Wade.
 
Tiger Woods, playing in the FedExCup Playoffs for the first time in five years, and Brooks Koepka, winner of two of this year’s four golf majors, will be among the stars in featured group action airing on ESPN+ Thursday morning from The Northern Trust.Woods, grouped with Marc Leishman and Tommy Fleetwood, tees off at 7:54a on Thursday and fans can see his full round on ESPN+.
 
Jay Glazer announced plans to join The Athletic, announcing on the site that "My job at Fox, and now here at The Athletic, is to get you guys, the reader, connected to a subject in a way you haven't seen before," Glazer wrote. "I don't stand for coach-speak or vanilla, and I have the relationships to call bulls--t in a way others can't."
 
 
ESPORTS

Motorsport Network continues to dive deeper into gaming. After announcing the Le Mans esports series in June, the company has now added 704Games, NASCAR Team Properties' exclusive console simulation-style video game licensee, under its umbrella. Motorsport Network joins other high-profile existing investors including HC2 Holdings Inc., PlayFast Games, LLC, Leo Capital Holdings LLC, and Gaming Nation Inc. as investors in the company. The move means that Motorsport Network is investing in NASCAR gaming for the first time and expanding its footprint within esports. 704Games' newest video game release, NASCAR Heat 3, arrives at retailers on Sept. 7, while NASCAR Heat Mobile, the first authentic NASCAR mobile racing game, surpassed two million downloads earlier this year.
 
In an announcement posted by the company on Monday, Twitch stated that it would start to phase out ad-free viewing with Prime on Sept. 14, while new Twitch Prime accounts made after that date will not have ad-free viewing. Viewers will still be able to access ad-free viewing on a channel by using your Twitch Prime sub, if the creator has the benefit enabled. Twitch Prime members who have monthly subscriptions will continue to receive an ad-free viewing experience through Oct. 15, while annual subscribers  and those who upgrade to an annual subscription before Sept. 14 will continue to enjoy ad-free viewing until their next renewal date.
 
Psyonix announced that Collegiate Rocket League would return for the Fall 2018 semester courtesy of a partnership with Tespa. The year’s season will offer $75,000 in scholarship prizing, which will be split with $50,000 divided across the four regional group conferences, with a pool of $25,000 made available for the final four teams that move on to the national championship.
