Good morning. It’s Tuesday September 11, 2018 and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.

USOC Board Chair Larry Probst will step down from the board at the end of 2018, with Susanne Lyons, independent USOC board member and until recently the USOC’s acting CEO poised to replace him. Lyons’ four-year term as chair will begin on Jan 1, 2019. Meanwhile, Lyons was succeeded as CEO by Sarah Hirshland.

“Serving as chairman of the USOC board of directors has been an extraordinary honor and I’m proud of the work we did during my tenure to support American athletes, and advance the Olympic and Paralympic movements,” said Probst. “I became chairman at a difficult time for the USOC and worked diligently with my colleagues here in the U.S., and around the world, to change the USOC for the better. It’s now time for a new generation of leaders to confront the challenges facing the organization and I have the utmost confidence in Susanne’s and Sarah’s ability to do just that.”

“I’m honored that the board has entrusted me with this position, eager to continue to support our Olympic and Paralympic athletes, and ready to do the work necessary to regain the trust of our athlete community; particularly survivors of abuse,” said Lyons. “I’ve been associated with the Olympic and Paralympic movements for nearly two decades and never dreamed I would be in this position. It’s no secret that the USOC is at critically challenging time in its history and we simply must get it right. I intend to make sure we do.”

ON THE AIR

Week one of the NFL season wrapped up with upticks in daytime. CBS Sports reports that opening week of The NFL on CBS on Sunday delivered the network’s best opening NFL singleheader viewership in 20 years, rising 29% with an average of 17.1 million viewers according to Nielsen’s Live + Same Day fast national ratings.

Meanwhile, FOX Sports is touting that its NFL Week 1 metered market ratings saw upticks of 5% for its regional game broadcast, hitting an 8.8, while America’s Game of the Week was up 1% to hit a 15.7. Meanwhile, FOX NFL Kickoff at 11a grew 22% to a 1.1, while FOX NFL Sunday was up 9% to hit an 8.8.

Primetime ratings for the NFL weren’t as successful, as the Bears/Packers game drew a 14.4 on SNF on NBC, down from a 15.8 for Giants-Cowboys last year. Still, the 14.4/25 overnight for NBC’s game easily took Sunday night in primetime.

In college numbers, CBS saw the SEC on CBS, featuring Georgia/South Carolina, rank as the top afternoon college football game on Saturday, averaging a 2.4/6 and up 60% over last year in metered markets. Meanwhile, FOX Sports reports that Oklahoma’s win over UCLA drew a 2.3 in metered market numbers.

CBS Sports also announced its SEC on CBS football game for Sept. 22 will feature Alabama against Texas A&M. Brad Nessler, Gary Danielson and reporter Jamie Erdahl call the contest from Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
