LA Stadium and Entertainment District at Hollywood Park inked a 20-year deal with SoFi that designates the digital personal finance company as the exclusive naming rights partner of the new SoFi Stadium, which will serve as the future home of the Los Angeles Chargers and the Los Angeles Rams. In addition, SoFi will be an official partner of each of the teams as well as a partner of the performance venue and surrounding entertainment district.  In addition, a 27,000 square foot SoFi-branded VIP activation space inside the stadium will be utilized for special events, including a dedicated SoFi lounge for its members to access, one of the exclusive opportunities the company plans to offer members as part of this partnership.

PROGRAMMING

Charles Woodson signed on to join FOX Sports’ Big Noon Kickoff, FOX NFL Kickoff and FOX NFL Sunday for select appearances this season. Woodson makes his debut on Sept. 21 where he will join Big Noon Kickoff host Rob Stone and analysts Brady Quinn, Reggie Bush, Matt Leinart and Urban Meyer at 11a on FOX. Woodson will make select additional appearances on the programs throughout the college and NFL seasons.
 
A two-night WWE draft is set to take place live on Friday Night SmackDown on October 11 at 8p on FOX as well as on Monday Night Raw on October 14 at 8p on USA Network. On both nights of the draft, Superstars from Raw and SmackDown will appear along with personalities from FOX and NBCUniversal programming who will announce select picks from each brand. The draft will determine the Superstars that compete for Raw and SmackDown, which feature distinct casts, unique storylines and dedicated writing teams. Friday Night SmackDown on October 11 will emanate from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas while Monday Night Raw on October 14 will take place at the Pepsi Center in Denver.
 
Speaking of FOX, the channel saw Ohio State’s win over Indiana score a 2.5 metered market rating, according to Nielsen, to rank the highest-rated college football game in the noon window. So far this season, that window is up 55% in metered markets through three weeks of action.
 
The WNBA announced the updated game schedule and national television arrangements for the 2019 WNBA Playoffs, with the semifinals starting tomorrow night at 6:30p on ESPN2, with LA/Connecticut followed by La Vegas/Washington DC at 8:30p. Subsequent games, if needed, for the best-of-five series will take place (for both brackets) on Sept. 19, 22, 24 and 26. The WNBA Finals will tip off on ESPN. 29 on ESPN.
 
ACC Network confirmed its slate of ACC men’s and women’s basketball games from opening night through the conference tournament during the 2019-20 season. The channel will carry 68 men’s conference matchups, and a number of women’s basketball games, including ACC powerhouses Notre Dame and Louisville, plus four Women’s Big Ten/ACC Challenge games throughout the network’s inaugural season. The 2019-20 men’s basketball season will open on ACCN with four high-profile matchups on November 5 and 6. Leading off, Georgia Tech will play at NC State, and Miami will host Louisville on November 5. The following day, Virginia visits Syracuse and North Carolina hosts Notre Dame.

Advertisers paid almost $100 million on US spots in and around the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup and exceeding expectations, according to the Wall Street Journal. Ad-tracker Kantar said that the Women’s World Cup, which the U.S. team won in July, brought in an estimated $96 million, more than double the company’s earlier estimate of $43 million.
 
UFC is expanding its long-time partnership with Toyo Tires to launch a new annual end-of-year awards program that honors UFC’s top fighters, performances and moments. UFC Honors, Presented by Toyo Tires, will comprise a variety of categories within two groups, including: UFC Performance of the Year; UFC Fight of the Year; Toyo Tires’ UFC Knockout of the Year; Toyo Tires’ UFC Submission of the Year; Toyo Tires’ UFC Event of the Year; and Toyo Tires’ UFC Comeback of the Year. The winners of the ‘UFC Performance of the Year’ and ‘UFC Fight of the Year’ awards will be personally chosen by UFC President Dana White, while winners in the ‘UFC Honors Fan Choice’ group will be determined through social and online voting. 
 
DIGITAL, DATA & TECH

NFL PrimeTime with Chris Berman and Tom Jackson, is back with the highlights show – which ran from 1987-2005 - returning this fall on ESPN+. Beginning Sunday, Sept. 15, with Week 2, NFL PrimeTime will stream on ESPN+ live Sunday nights throughout the 2019 NFL season at 7:30p. It will also be updated following its initial live airing, with highlights from Sunday and Monday night games, and be available on-demand each week on ESPN+ until late Wednesday night. “Chris Berman and Tom Jackson’s return to NFL PrimeTime on ESPN+ combines one of ESPN’s most beloved franchises and signature voices with our most exciting new platform for fans,” said Russell Wolff, General Manager of ESPN+. “Chris and Tom are the best to ever call NFL highlights and now a whole new generation of fans will be able to watch them each week as ESPN+ showcases all the best plays and key moments from the week’s action in the National Football League.”
 
ESPORTS

Twitch counts down to TwitchCon San Diego, set to run Sept. 27-29 at the San Diego Convention Center, with a slate of esports competition as well as a sponsor lineup for the celebration. Streamers will compete in Fortnite, League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, and Apex Legends for a piece of the $1 million prize pool. Sponsors include Honda, Kraken Rum, Alienware, Totino’s, first-time sponsor M.A.C. Cosmetics, and more. In addition, performers this year are set to include Lil Nas X, blink-182, Madeon, Au/Ra, and Y2K.
 
The Overwatch League is down to two for its second season, as playoff action has seen the Vancouver Titans and San Francisco Shock emerge as last teams standing for the sold-out Grand Finals in Philadelphia on Sept. 29. The event will be livestreamed on Twitch in 190 countries and broadcast on ABC from 3–6p on Sept. 29. The match will also be available on the ESPN app, overwatchleague.com, and the Overwatch League app.
 
BLAST unlocked its newest CS:GO competitive circuit, titled the BLAST Premier for 2020, dangling $500,000 for winners of each of the two Season Finals, with a grand prize of $1,000,000 for the 2020 Global Final. Total prizing for the series will hit $4,250,000. The tournament series will be played with both a spring and fall season, starting with 12 teams in three groups, with a week of matches per group.
 
Meanwhile, Gears Esports mapped out more of its esports plans players of all skill levels from around the world to compete for more than $2 million worth of prizing. The 2019-2020 season will be divided into four quarters, each capped off with a major international event. Beginning Sept. 22 will open   play with teams and at the end of each quarter, the team with the most Challenger Points in each region, and the winner of a double elimination playoff between the top six teams on each regional ladder, will be awarded travel to that quarter’s major event. Top teams in North America, Europe and Latin America will also have the opportunity to qualify for the Gears Pro League.
 
OpTic Gaming founder and former CEO Hector “H3CZ” Rodriguez issued a statement that he is leaving his position at the organization for new and independent ventures. OpTic Gaming was acquired by Immortals Gaming Club earlier this year.
