The NHL Players' Association opted to not exercise its right to reopen the NHL/NHLPA Collective Bargaining Agreement, guaranteeing labor peace for the league through 2022. The NHL previously announced on Aug. 30 it would not reopen the agreement. "While players have concerns with the current CBA, we agree with the League that working together to address those concerns is the preferred course of action instead of terminating the agreement following this season," NHLPA executive director Don Fehr said. "We have been having discussions with the League about an extension of the CBA and expect that those talks will continue." PROGRAMMING The NFL brought joy to FOX over the weekend, as the channel reports back-to-back wins as the top-rated NFL telecast of the period as the Rams win over the Saints in America’s Game of the Week drew a 15.8/32 metered market Nielsen sore, and up 13% over last year’s comparable window. The regional game, meanwhile, averaged an 11.4/25 to marks the network’s top performer for a regional contest since 2013, and up 21% over last year. CBS Sports’ second singleheader week of the 2019 NFL season on Sunday delivered a 19% ratings uptick over its comparable second singleheader week last year. The NFL on CBS drew a 9.9/22 average household rating/share in the metered markets. The two singleheaders-to-date on CBS in 2019 are averaging a 10.1/22, up 6% from a 9.5/20 for the first two singleheaders of the 2018 season, which is the best metered market average for the first two singleheaders of the season on CBS since 2016. Meanwhile, NBC’s Sunday Night Football continued to rank as the evening’s top primetime show despite a dip for the Eagles/Falcons matchup in overnight numbers, notching a 12.2/22 to double the night’s number two show in 60 Minutes CBS Sports locked in its SEC on CBS football game for Sept. 28, at 3:30p, selecting Ole Miss/Alabama. Brad Nessler, Gary Danielson and reporter Jamie Erdahl will call the contest from Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. The Cricket World Cup 2019 ranked as the event’s most watched outing of all time in global numbers, per a report from The International Cricket Council. The org announced that “The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019 was the most watched ICC event ever with a global cumulative average audience of 1.6 billion for live coverage, a 38% increase over the 2015 edition and a unique broadcast audience of 706 million viewers, demonstrating the phenomenal reach and power of live cricket around the world.” It added that “The event also recorded a 42% increase in average time watched per unique viewer in comparison to the 2015 Men’s Cricket World Cup.” Tennis Channel's third year of exclusive Laver Cup television coverage opens serve on Friday, at 7a, featuring six of the top European stars facing off against six of the best players from the rest of the world. The network will offer complete live coverage of the three-day event, held in Geneva this year. Tennis Channel will showcase over 20 hours of live Laver Cup coverage in 2019, with encore matches following the conclusion of each day's play. The network's on-air team features Hall of Famer and analyst Lindsay Davenport along with coach Paul Annacone. Tennis Channel's announcers include veteran sportscasters Brett Haber, Steve Weissman and newcomer Noah Eagle. The NBA and Sky Italia cemented a four-year broadcast and multi-platform partnership expansion for Sky Italia to continue its run as the NBA’s exclusive broadcast partner and official website operator in Italy. Sky Italia will carry more than 300 live games each season, including a record 48 weekend primetime games as part of the league’s NBA Saturdays and NBA Sundays programming. On the local front, the New York Riptide of the National Lacrosse League announced that nine games for the Riptide’s inaugural season will be telecast on MSG Networks. The first Riptide telecast on MSG Networks will take place on Dec. 14 against the Vancouver Warriors at 10p. “The Riptide are proud to partner with MSG Networks to bring games from our inaugural season to fans throughout the tri-state area. SPONSORSHIP & PROMOTION The PGA TOUR and YETI Holdings, a premium outdoor brand, inked a new partnership that makes YETI the “Official Insulated Cup” and “Official Insulated Cooler” of the PGA TOUR and PGA TOUR Champions.
