Discovery and its European sports platform Eurosport are partnering with Twitter to bring Eurosport's coverage of the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics to users of the social platform across the region. The deal will see Eurosport showcase real-time Olympic Games highlights on Twitter to complement its comprehensive coverage of Tokyo 2020. Twitter will sell in-stream sponsorships in tandem with the Discovery and Eurosport sales teams. “We’re thrilled to be teaming up with Twitter in a collaboration that will bring Eurosport’s award-winning Olympic Games coverage to even more people across the continent.,” said Paul Rehrig, General Manager, Eurosport Digital. “Twitter is the premier platform for live content and conversation and the perfect place to extend the reach of Eurosport’s coverage of Tokyo 2020.” PROGRAMMING
The HSBC LA SEVENS found a new home, announcing a move to LA starting in 2020. Part of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, the event will now be played at Dignity Health Sports Park beginning Feb. 29. The HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series is an annual series of international rugby sevens tournaments taking place over 10 global cities including Paris, London, Hong Kong and Sydney, and featuring national teams from the top 16 countries. The US leg of the international series, most recently held in Las Vegas, now moves to Los Angeles for the next 4 years and will be the largest annual rugby event in the United States. Monday Night Football’s controversial Packers’ win over the Lions handed ESPN and ESPN Deportes with an average of 13.4 million viewers, placing the battle as the second most-viewed MNF game of the 2019 NFL season. Viewership was up 10% over the network’s week 6 matchup in 2018, according to Nielsen. Through seven games, MNF’s average audience of 11,898,000 viewers is up 3% season-to-date. CBS Sports saw its Week 6 national 4:25p NFL game window coverage on Sunday generate a 21% uptick in viewership over last year to rank as CBS’ most-watched NFL October telecast in three years. The game was watched by an average of 21.422 million viewers compared to last year’s 17.688 million. Through six weeks of the NFL season, The NFL on CBS’ season-to-date viewership is the best in three years, and up 9% with 16.957 million viewers. ESPN’s coverage of Florida/LSU on Saturday drove the network to multi-year college football viewership highs, averaging 6,450,000 viewers, ESPN’s most-watched game in nearly two years. ESPN was up 70% year-over-year from last year’s similar window. Meanwhile, ABC’s Saturday Night Football featuring Penn State/Iowa averaged 3,695,000 viewers. The PGA TOUR unveiled the 2020 Korn Ferry Tour schedule, which features 28 tournaments played in 20 states and four countries outside the United States, with the season culminating with the Korn Ferry Tour Finals in August. The 28 total events are the most since 2010 and will include $18,850,000 in official prize money, the largest figure on the Korn Ferry Tour in over a decade. The slate will add four new events to the calendar: Lake Charles Championship – The Country Club at the Golden Nugget; Veritex Bank Championship – Texas Rangers Golf Club; Huntsville Championship – The Ledges Golf Club; Live + Work in Maine Open – Falmouth Country Club. Seven events will air on GOLF Channel, including all three Korn Ferry Tour Finals events. The third season of CBS Sports’ Four Sides of the Story franchise opens on Saturday on CBS with “Hail Flutie!” The documentary, which is part of the network’s 150th college football anniversary celebration, and showcases the Hail Mary thrown by Doug Flutie to Gerard Phelan on the final play of the game. Following last month’s announcement, 13-year NHL veteran Ryan Callahan will make his debut as a member of NHL Network’s on-air talent lineup tonight at 9:30p on NHL Tonight alongside host Jamison Coyle and analyst Kevin Weekes. Callahan will appear across NHL Network’s programming as a studio analyst.
