Hyundai is making a return trip to the Super Bowl, slating a 60-second ad that will run in the first quarter of the game on Feb. 3 in addition to a 30-second pregame ad and Super Bowl experiential marketing activations in Atlanta. Agency-of-record Innocean Worldwide handles the spot. The decision means that Hyundai now joins Kia and Mercedes-Benz as auto brands that have confirmed 2019 Super Bowl ads.
 
“After more than a decade of Super Bowl experience and well-regarded creative executions, we are excited to return to the Big Game with fresh, new content that uses the successful formula we’ve refined over the years,” said Dean Evans, CMO, Hyundai Motor America. “The Super Bowl is America’s largest stage that allows us to entertain a massive audience while sharing our latest brand and product messages.”
 
 
PROGRAMMING

FOX Sports checked in with its week 13 NFL numbers, which saw the Patriots’ win over the Vikings reel in a 15.9/31 in overnight Nielsen scores, up 16% over last year’s equivalent and ranking as the top metered market rating for an NFL telecast this season. Overall the regional window drew a 9.9/21 and up 19%.
 
ESPN lined up its roster of presenters for The Home Depot College Football Awards, running Thursday at 7p on the network. Among the names set to deliver honors this year will be Vince Young, Bob Stoops, Herschel Walker, Ray Guy, Paul Posluszny, Fred Biletnikoff, Jonathan Ruffin, Desmond Howard, Barrett Jones, Billy Bastek, Jay Walker, Faron Kelley, and Morten Andersen.
 
MLB Network hits Las Vegas this week for extensive coverage of the 2018 Baseball Winter Meetings, flanked by insiders Peter Gammons, Jon Heyman, Ken Rosenthal, Joel Sherman and Tom Verducci with more than 45 hours of on-site programming on deck. For the first time, coverage of the Winter Meetings will be presented by tax firm CohnReznick which will see MLB Network produce a new series, Business of Baseball, to explore the strategic issues franchises tackle on and off the field. Interviews with club managers and general managers will come from Mark DeRosa, Kevin Millar, Dan Plesac and Harold Reynolds beginning with MLB Tonight on Sunda at 8p.
 
The Deontay Wilder/Tyson Fury heavyweight battle will get another play, with Showtime running the bout on Saturday at 9p. The presentation will be immediately followed by the premiere of All Access: Wilder vs. Fury Epilogue.
 
Telemundo Deportes set up multimedia coverage of the Final Draw for the Women’s World Cup on Saturday beginning at 11:55a. The event will be simulcast on Telemundo, Universo and Telemundo Deportes App, live from the Seine Musicale performing arts center in Boulogne-Billancourt, near Paris. Andres Cantor will lead the coverage from Paris with Carlota Vizmanos also reporting from site
 
SiriusXM announced that former NBA veterans Carlos Boozer, Caron Butler, Ryan Hollins and Kenyon Martin have joined the SiriusXM NBA Radio channel roster of hosts. Boozer, Butler, Hollins and Martin join the rotation of hosts on SiriusXM NBA Radio’s all-new afternoon show, No Look Pass, running weekdays from 1-4p. The show features three hosts every day discussing the latest news, rumors and activity around the league from a pool of former players and executives that also includes Greg Anthony, Antonio Daniels, Amin Elhassan, David Griffin, Tim Legler and Rick Mahorn.
 
Pac-12 Networks’ upcoming baseball and softball broadcast schedule is slated to include over 180 games, with over 95 for baseball and over 85 for softball. The baseball season coverage gets underway on March 10 with three games, including two games of the “Seattle Baseball Showcase” at Safeco Field featuring the defending NCAA champion Oregon State Beavers against Coastal Carolina as well as the Washington Huskies against Minnesota. In total, each Pac-12 program will air at least 13 times on Pac-12 Networks. Softball season, meanwhile, will include coverage of the 2019 Kajikawa Classic from Farrington Stadium from Feb. 8-10.  
 
RIP to pro-cycling commentator and staple Paul Sherwen, who died on Sunday at his home in Uganda. He was 62. "Paul was synonymous with the Tour de France in the US and will be greatly missed by his legions of fans and the NBC Sports family, which was honored to be part of Paul's 40th Tour last July," NBC Sports said in a statement. "Our thoughts are with Paul's wife, Katherine, their children, and all of those in the cycling community who became Paul Sherwen fans over his many years calling the sport he loved."

As a part of an integrated media plan, Applegate will have dominant positioning throughout the MiLB digital network. Additionally, using ISM Connect technology, Applegate’s messaging will be featured in ballparks.
 
Amazon confirmed plans to serve as presenting sponsor of “The Championships Week” across Univision Deportes, reported by SBJ, marking the company’s biggest ad buy with Univision. “Semana de Campeonatos presentado por Amazon,” will play during the first half of December, including the MLS Cup championship game, along with the “two-legged” finals of Mexico’s top-tier Liga MX and playoff competition from the UEFA Champions League.
 
 
DIGITAL, DATA & TECH

Sports data and Intelligence company STATS locked in an extension of its deal with Canada’s Sportsnet to continue to deliver team and player statistics across major North American and international sports leagues, contributing to Sportsnet’s national coverage of the NHL, MLB, NBA and more. The deal includes access to STATS’ premium data feeds, box scores and more.
 
DAZN continues to broaden its wings, announcing plans to launch in Brazil in March 2019. CONMEBOL has already awarded DAZN the exclusive broadcast rights for all Copa Sudamericana matches from 2019, for four seasons. In addition, DAZN will show all Serie A TIM and Ligue 1 games exclusively until 2021, with more major rights to be announced soon.
 
 
ESPORTS

The Overwatch League locked in a multi-year deal with sports merchandise platform Fanatics to provide the league’s fanbase with an omnichannel retail experience along with a “significantly expanded” assortment of products. The deal marks the first-ever foray into the rapidly expanding global esports industry for Fanatics and is the first of its kind between a major retailer and an official esports league. The deal will be anchored by Fanatics securing US and international rights to produce Overwatch League jerseys, fan gear, headwear, and hard goods sold across all retail and wholesale channels. Under the new agreement, both parties also will work collaboratively to identify and secure additional world-class companies to grow the overall assortment of high-quality products available to fans. In addition, Fanatics will establish a new global ecommerce and mobile shopping platform and operate on-site retail for all league events.
 
Meanwhile, the final expansion team for Overwatch League revealed its branding monikers, as Washington Esports Ventures, led by Mark Ein, announced the official name and identity for the Washington, DC expansion team. The squad will be known as the Washington Justice, flagged by the official team colors of red, white, and blue.
 
The North America Scholastic Esports Federation revealed its lineup of 2019 events, beginning with a season-long tournament for Riot Games' League of Legends to open the winter. In addition, "Extra Credit" mini-tournaments will be offered in Rocket League and Fortnite. NASEF is also implementing several "Beyond the Game" creative challenges tied to careers, including designing a logo, shoutcasting a game, producing a highlights video, and more.
 
Justin ‘Fearitself’ Kats signed on to become part of the roster at Abrams Artists Agency, where he will be represented by the Agency’s Alternative Programming, Licensing and Digital Division. According to the announcement, the deal will see his growth “parlayed into high-level gameplay as well as into personality-driven content for various platforms and verticals of entertainment.”
 
Beasley XP’s Checkpoint XP will provide extensive coverage of the upcoming inaugural 2018 Boston Uprising Collegiate Cup. The live event will take place on Saturday and feature a 6v6 clash between the final four teams at Laugh Boston. The remaining teams are esports clubs from Boston University, Northeastern University, University of Connecticut and Emerson College. Team Checkpoint XP Casters’ Norris Howard and Robbie Landis will offer coverage for the CheckpointXP Channel on Twitch.
