Ownership of Mickey Mantle's 500th HR Bat Heads to Court
The ownership of the bat that Mickey Mantle used to hit his 500th home run with the New York Yankees is now under legal dispute. Former Yankee slugger and Brookyn native, Joe Pepitone has filed a lawsuit in New York's federal court claiming that he gave the Hall of Fame the bat on loan under the condition that it be returned to him if ever requested. His request was denied by the Hall of Fame in September 2020 saying he did not have rights to the bat. The bat has a perceived value of more than $500,000.
'X-Men' No. 1 Breaks Previous Auction Record by $300K
Late last month, a copy of X-Men No. 1 in Near-Mint condition sold for $807,300 in an auction held by ComicConnect.com. The price of the comic is not the most expensive comic book of all time, but it does smash the previous record of the same book by more than $300,000. This nearly 60 year old copy was printed on newsprint and holds a 9.6 rating with CGC. During the auction, the book attracted more than 50 bidders from around the world. This truly shows that sports memorabilia isn't the only collectibles market in the game jumping up in value.
