Welcome to Thursday's edition of The Scotsman's daily briefing. We've got a lot to pack in today. Make sure you scroll to the end of the email.

Christmas as we know it likely to be cancelled

Across Scotland millions of families are pondering how to make Christmas work this year. The festive traditions each household have are at risk as Covid-19 continues to pose a severe threat to public health.

(Correction: Yesterday I incorrectly stated there are 58 MPs in Scotland. There are 59. Apologies)

Residents rescued and motorists stranded amid flooding

Residents have been evacuated from flooded properties and cars were stranded in water following heavy rain in the north east.

The Met Office has issued yellow warnings of heavy rain for these areas of Scotland which are in force for most of the morning.
