New York's Republican gubernatorial Lee Zeldin takes to the stage at Perinton Memorial Post 8495 of the VFW on Thursday, July 21, 2022, having been introduced by Joe Chenelly, the Republican candidate for the New York State Assembly’s 135th District, the rally's emcee. About 15 minutes later, a man jumped onto the stage, approached Zeldin and shouted "You're done!" as he brandished a two-pronged brass-knuckle weapon. Zeldin pushed the man back and Chenelly, a former high-school wrestler and Marine, wrestled the man to the ground, taking Zeldin with him.
