Australia and New Zealand took no prisoners right from the start. They locked down quickly and at the first sign of a new outbreak, in go the troops to enforce more lockdowns, roadblocks and the rest. Too harsh? Well look at the results. Australia, a country of around 26million people, has had fewer than 35,000 cases and 925 deaths. We’ve had those sorts of numbers in a day at the height of the last wave. New Zealand, population five million, has had 2,877 cases and just 26 deaths. And in Wuhan, China, where the first outbreak began, 11m people have now been told they are going to be tested for the virus and are facing a brutal lockdown again. No iffs, no buts. I’m not suggesting that we follow their lead by removing people’s human rights. But we do have to get things into perspective. No holidays to France this year. There are worse things, right?.
