SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY Isaiah 29:13-14 |
|
Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men: Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.

QUOTE OF THE DAY Heber J. Grant |
|
“In humility, and with full consciousness of the responsibility involved, we bear witness to the people of the world that with the appearance of the Father and the Son to the Prophet Joseph Smith, in the early spring of 1820, the greatest gospel dispensation of all time was ushered in, a dispensation of light, radiating from the presence of God, illuminating the minds of men, increasing intelligence and knowledge, which is the glory of God” (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Heber J. Grant, p. 17).

TODAY IN CHURCH HISTORY April 10, 2021 |
|
1842 - The Prophet Joseph Smith gave his Sunday sermon in the grove near the temple in Nauvoo. He called on the Saints to repent and to become more like God. “If you wish to go where God is, you must be like God.” He also said, “Search your hearts, and see if you are like God. I have searched mine, and feel to repent of all my sins” (History of the Church, 4:587-588).

God, Family, Country, Our Three Great Loyalties (1974)by Ezra Taft Benson
Ezra Taft Benson speaks in the fearless manner so characteristic of him, giving heart and courage to the weak and the doubting. He gives strong reassurance to those who need a bolstering hand in defending true Christianity against avowed atheists, unbelieving intellectuals, and those who have political reasons for crushing true religion. To love Christ means service to Him with full heart and mind and soul. It is all encompassing. It embraces unquestioning faith, complete obedience, our day-to-day living habits, our family, and our civic life. The whole duty of man is to serve God and keep His commandments. Benson teaches that one cannot be a good Christian and be a careless or inactive church member. One cannot be a wholehearted Christian and not be a good family man, for a good family is indispensable to the highest kind of living. He also teaches that no man can be a good Christian and at the same time be a bad citizen, a law breaker, or dishonest in any form. President Benson points out the true pathway to the Lord, which is traversed only through faith in God and sincere application of His principles to daily life, including home and nation.
