SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
2 Nephi 2:15-16
And to bring about his eternal purposes in the end of man, after he had created our first parents, and the beasts of the field and the fowls of the air, and in fine, all things which are created, it must needs be that there was an opposition; even the forbidden fruit in opposition to the tree of life; the one being sweet and the other bitter. Wherefore, the Lord God gave unto man that he should act for himself. Wherefore, man could not act for himself save it should be that he was enticed by the one or the other.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
Howard W. Hunter
Harold B. Lee
“If everything were good in the world and there were none evil, would you be able to choose anything but good? If everything were evil in the world, if there wasn’t any good to choose, could you choose anything else but evil? When you think about it for a moment, the only way there could be free agency in the individuals who live upon this earth is to have both the good and the bad and each one of us given the opportunity to choose for ourselves… You see, free agency takes its chances. The Lord is willing to risk that in order that we might walk by faith and as free, independent agents, choose the right (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Harold B. Lee, p. 15)

It was not a typical summer day in beautiful Waitara, New Zealand. It was just before Christmas, and it was unusually cold and wet. As missionaries, we were not looking forward to going out into the pouring rain and hoping someone would let two soaking wet young men into their clean, dry home. Elder Bill Johnson and I did our usual morning routine and then wondered what to do with all the rain. We decided to make cookies---or biscuits as they are known in New Zealand. Not just any biscuits, but chocolate chip biscuits.
