SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY Alma 7:22-23 |
|
And now my beloved brethren, I have said these things unto you that I might awaken you to a sense of your duty to God, that ye may walk blameless before him, that ye may walk after the holy order of God, after which ye have been received. And now I would that ye should be humble, and be submissive and gentle; easy to be entreated; full of patience and long-suffering; being temperate in all things; being diligent in keeping the commandments of God at all times; asking for whatsoever things ye stand in need, both spiritual and temporal; always returning thanks unto God for whatsoever things ye do receive.

QUOTE OF THE DAY Heber J. Grant |
“The object of our being placed upon this earth is that we may work out an exaltation, that we may prepare ourselves to go back and dwell with our Heavenly Father; and our Father, knowing the faults and failings of men, has given us certain commandments to obey, and if we will examine those requirements and the things that devolve upon us we will find that they are all for our individual benefit and advancement. The school of life in which we are placed and the lessons that are given to us by our Father will make of us exactly what He desires, so that we may be prepared to dwell with Him” (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Heber J. Grant, p. 30).

TODAY IN CHURCH HISTORY June 19 |
|
1829 - About this time, Martin Harris, David Whitmer, Oliver Cowdery, and the Prophet Joseph Smith, “agreed to retire into the woods, and try to obtain, by fervent and humble prayer, the fulfilment of the promises given” concerning three witnesses of the Book of Mormon. They prayed to no avail when Martin Harris withdrew himself saying it was his fault. Almost immediately afterwards, after prayer, the remaining three men saw an Angel holding the plates and heard a voice from heaven declare the translation was correct. The Prophet Joseph then went in pursuit of Martin Harris, who he found in fervent prayer. After joining him in prayer, both men beheld the same vision as seen before. David Whitmer, Martin Harris, and Oliver Cowery then joined together in writing the Testimony of the Three Witnesses recorded in the Book of Mormon. All three died confirming their testimony of this event.
