1844 - Governor Ford arrived in Nauvoo and visited the Temple under construction. His troops, numbering about 500 men, of the Illinois Militia, arrived in the afternoon and camped on a vacant lot on the “flats” in Nauvoo. Many of the troops visited the Temple and were amazed at its construction.
