Twenty-one anti-glyphosate activists have been acquitted by a French court after they openly made containers of glyphosate-based herbicides (like Roundup) unsellable by painting them. The public prosecutor’s office had applied for mild and suspended sentences. During the hearing, the defendants' lawyer Guillaume Tumerelle pleaded for an acquittal and argued that the activists' actions were necessary in view of the "toxicity of glyphosate". Several experts invited by the volunteer reapers supported their anti-glyphosate positions. The public prosecutor may still appeal, but Dominique Masset, one of the defendants, considers this possibility "unlikely", "in view of his rather lenient indictment".
