A US Congressman from South Dakota is sponsoring a bill with US Congressman Jim Costa from California that restricts states from issuing different labelling requirements for pesticides already approved by the Environmental Protection Agency. The bill is backed by all the usual Big Ag front groups and pesticide pushers: CropLife America, Farm Bureau, and the (GMO) corn and soy lobbies. The American Soybean Association’s director of government affairs Kyle Kunkler says California wants to add a health warning label to glyphosate saying the product could cause cancer, but he claims science doesn’t support the statement. A coalition of health insurance funds, beekeepers, and farmers want a total ban on glyphosate in both Belgium and the European Union. The broad coalition of 46 organisations also includes UNICEF and anti-Parkinson's and anti-cancer charities. In an open letter, the coalition calls on the Flemish, Walloon and federal Belgian governments to impose a total ban on glyphosate, as well as voting this year at the EU level against the renewal of the licence for glyphosate.
