| 29/June/23 | Patents and new GM techniques: Don't risk the future of our seeds! – Register now This event on 6 July is co-hosted by Green/EFA MEPs Martin Häusling, Sarah Wiener, Thomas Waitz and Benoit Biteau together with No Patents on Seeds. The agricultural biotechnology industry is lobbying hard to exclude plants derived from "new genomic techniques" from the EU's GMO law, which requires traceability and consumer labelling of these products. The industry is filing more and more patent applications for such plants. At the same time, it is also working to expand the scope of patents to conventionally bred plants. If these efforts are successful, the EU will see a surge of patented seeds, including both genetically engineered and conventional seeds. This would have severe consequences for breeders, farmers, food producers and consumers. This conference will provide new information on recent patent applications and discuss the potential impacts of patented seeds on EU plant breeding, farming and consumers. Register now! Greens/EFA, S&D, Renew Europe in the European Parliament SARS-CoV-2: The great raccoon dog mystery This April and May the virologist Dr Jonathan Latham set off on a European tour of virology conferences that are, once more being held in person. He had important questions about the origin of SARS-CoV-2 and the COVID-19 pandemic that could only be asked live and in person. He also planned to find out more about the latest research, assess the future of the origin controversy, and test the opinions of ordinary virologists about the origin itself. Is there, indeed, a scientific consensus? It would be a tour of the COVID origin frontline. He returned with a rich haul of insights and answers. But what he didn't expect was that the mere act of asking questions would set off a chain of events and revelations that saw him spied on, stolen from, and censored, by the scientific organisers of the third and final conference. This reaction helped validate the case that there is a fatal flaw in the Huanan market SARS-CoV-2 origin theory and a campaign to cover it up by scientists previously not known to be involved. [GMW: This is a very important article that will open people's eyes to the sinister practices of prominent people promoting the market origin theory of SARS-CoV-2.] Independent Science News We hope you’ve enjoyed this newsletter, which is made possible by readers’ donations.
