| | The Kenyan High Court on Thursday dismissed a case challenging the government's reversal of a ban on genetically modified crops, effectively allowing for their import and open cultivation. The East African nation lifted a decade-long ban on GM crops in October 2022 but the decision has been the subject of court challenges and protest from consumer and biodiversity groups. Paul Mwangi, a lawyer who is close to the opposition and the main petitioner in the case, said they were in the process of challenging the ruling at the higher Court of Appeal. The Kenyan Peasants League responded to the ruling on X here and here. Barrons and Kenyan Peasants League Kenyan farmers are dissatisfied with the court ruling (see above) lifting the ban on GMOs. The Kenyan Peasants League said it is appealing the decision of the court because it failed to take into account farmers' and consumers' concerns.
