Dr Michael Antoniou of King's College London and Claire Robinson of GMWatch will speak at a conference in Brussels on 20 February, hosted by the European Economic and Social Committee and Via Campesina. The conference is on New GMOs, Patents and the Peasants’ Rights to Seeds in Europe. The title of their talk is "Why the regulation of gene editing will not hurt small and medium size companies". It will challenge the notion that the de-regulation of new GM techniques like gene editing will help such companies. Register now! European Coordination Via Campesina
Glyphosate and the glyphosate-based herbicide Roundup have been found to disrupt the gut microbiome by inhibiting the shikimate pathway, a series of chemical reactions, in gut bacteria, at doses assumed by regulators to be safe. This is the finding of a team of international scientists based in London, France, Italy and the Netherlands. The same doses – as well as far lower ones – also cause fatty liver disease and death of liver tissue. GMOScience
What will it take to get Mike Miller to settle? That is the pressing question as one of the lead lawyers in the nationwide Roundup cancer litigation has thus far refused to align with fellow litigators in agreeing to settle cases on behalf of thousands of cancer patients who claim their diseases were caused by exposure to Monsanto’s herbicide products. Instead, Miller’s firm is launching two new trials this month, including one that started on 17 January in Contra Costa, California, and one that starts on 21 January in St Louis, Missouri.
