| | Civil society groups in the UK (Beyond GM, GM Freeze and GMWatch) are calling for a rejection of the amendment to the UK's Agriculture Bill that plans to deregulate a range of gene-editing techniques. The amendment would give the UK Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs the power to change the definition of a GMO and re-classify many forms of gene editing as non-GM. Feed Navigator Dr Jonathan Latham has published a short "tweetorial" on the CRISPR gene-editing issues raised by the recent birth of the gene-edited calf Cosmo (the gene-editing process predictably produced many unintended effects).
