Brian Bakst reports: "The Minnesota Legislature worked to speed through a $330 million rescue plan Thursday that aims to head off some economic, health and spillover consequences of the coronavirus pandemic."
$200 million will go into a fund that the Walz administration will dole out. There were four "no" votes and 99 lawmakers favoring the measure.
"Maybe people aren't going to be shaking hands anymore." Maybe not. That quote from President Trump came as he said the White House's "next phase" of coronavirus containment would be data-driven, but that he still hopes for large swaths of the country to get back to business as usual around April 12.
Where is Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan? Well, her public absence amid the coronavirus pandemic is intentional and part of the plan, reports Peter Callaghan of MinnPost : “Part of the state’s continuity of operations plan calls for the governor and lieutenant governor to stay away from one another as a means of preventing both from becoming sick with COVID-19 at the same time. ... 'We have a responsibility to Minnesotans to make sure we’re doing that,' Flanagan said of the gubernatorial distancing. 'We needed to no longer appear in public or at the same public events.'"
Some good news for Amy Klobuchar's family. The senator's husband, John Bessler, has checked out of the hospital after testing positive for COVID-19 and is now recovering at home, reports Patrick Condon of the Strib. |
