| | | Those convicted of driving under the influence in Yakima are already responsible for paying the police department back for the cost of its emergency response, but that bill could soon go up. State law permits public agencies to recoup emergency response expenses in cases involving alcohol- or drug-impaired driving. The Yakima Police Department has been collecting these costs for years, but under the proposal, firefighters and Public Works crews could begin doing the same. |

Flight records indicate that Bering Air flight 445, a Cessna Caravan, was flying at around 3,400 feet when it stopped transmitting its location at 3:18 p.m. It was scheduled to arrive in Nome about 10 minutes later. Nome’s fire chief, Jim West Jr., said in an interview Thursday night that the pilot had planned to stay in a holding pattern over Cape Nome until the runway cleared. |

| | | VIDEO/PHOTOS: The City of Morristown said a historic fire bell now has a new home. The bell, which was cast in 1893, originally hung in the downtown area, where it was rung to call volunteer firefighters. In 1906, it was moved to the old city hall, and in the 1930s, it moved to the former municipal building. From here, it was still used to alert volunteer firefighters into the 1960s. In 1982, the city said it was moved to the Morristown Fire Department’s Fire Station 3, where it sat on display. |
