George Putney, an alumnus of the Prison Education Project at Washington University in St. Louis, understands this concept firsthand. He credits the program for giving him a sense of purpose while in prison—and extending that sense of purpose upon his exit. Today, Putney is pursuing a master's degree in social work, which he plans to use to help formerly incarcerated people readjust to society. |
