College is often seen as a turning point in one's life—a time to explore new academic and career pathways. However, for over one in four undergraduate students, that journey can take an unexpected turn when they find themselves directed into review courses, otherwise known as developmental or remedial courses. 

The issue of remedial education holds significant relevance at this moment, especially given the fact that students currently entering college are more likely to have experienced substantial academic setbacks due to disrupted schooling from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The U.S. Department of Education is unveiling a regulatory plan that aims to wipe away student loans for specific borrowers, including those who have been paying off their debts for 25 or more years.

This is the Biden administration’s second attempt at mass loan forgiveness. Earlier this year, the U.S. Supreme Court shot down President Joe Biden's initial program to discharge up to $20,000 for borrowers earning less than $125,000 a year.
