We live through challenge, outwardly or inwardly. Otherwise we’d fall into a routine, into various habits, which become automatic, and gradually we’d go off to sleep. When we are awakened through some terrible crisis – death, divorce, war, whatever it is – we form another pattern and live in that, until we die.
