Skimm'd with the AC on full blast

  QUOTE OF THE DAY

"It's. Not. Funny." - Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE), after someone signed his email up for a bunch of Nickelback promo newsletters. This is how you remind me...to have a sense of humor.

LONDON

The Story

Yesterday, a van drove into a crowd near a mosque in northern London.

Tell me more.

It happened late last night, when people were leaving evening prayers. At least 10 people were injured. One person died at the scene but it's unclear if that was related to the attack. This happened during Islam's holy month of Ramadan. Witnesses say they heard the driver shouting about wanting to kill Muslims. Officials arrested the driver and are looking into his motives.

This is being treated as a terrorist attack. It comes at a time when England has already faced three terrorist attacks this year, two of which involved vehicles. Prime Minister Theresa May said her thoughts are with "the victims, their families, and the emergency services on the scene."

REPEAT AFTER ME...

What people are watching...

A series of court cases. Over the weekend, a judge declared a mistrial in Bill Cosby's sexual assault case. Reminder: dozens of women have come forward with sexual assault allegations against him. Most cases were too old to bring to court. Except this one. But the jury couldn't reach a decision. Prosecutors plan on trying Cosby again. Meanwhile, a jury acquitted a Minnesota police officer for last year's fatal shooting of Philando Castile. Castile, a 32-year-old black man,was pulled over for a traffic stop. Castile told the officer that he had a gun in the car, which he had a license for. The officer shot Castile multiple times, because he says he thought Castile was reaching for the gun. Castile's girlfriend - who livestreamed the aftermath of the shooting - says Castile made it clear he wasn't. His family says "the system continues to fail black people." Elsewhere, a Massachusetts judge ruled that 20-year-old Michelle Carter is guilty of encouraging her boyfriend's suicide. Their texts and call history show that she pushed him to go through with his plan. Now, she could get 20 years in prison. And this case could set a new precedent for how texts can be brought into the courtroom.

What people are talking about...

The US Navy. Over the weekend, a US Navy warship collided with a container ship off the coast of Japan. The container - which is three times bigger - ripped a huge gash into the side of the Navy vessel while many people on board were sleeping. Several areas flooded and at least seven US sailors were later found dead. No one on the container ship was hurt. This area is known for having a lot of traffic but it's unclear why the ships weren't able to avoid each other. Both the US and Japan are now investigating. Meanwhile over the weekend in Portugal, a massive wildfire broke out in the central part of the country. At least 60 people died. Firefighters are still battling the flames, which officials say might've been sparked by lightning.

What to say to your friend who's really good at planning out a grocery list every week...

Get your cart ready. On Friday, Amazon said it's buying Whole Foods for nearly $14 billion. The deal sent Amazon's stock high enough to make CEO Jeff Bezos the world's second richest man...behind Bill Gates. NBD. Now Amazon's one step closer to de-throning Walmart - the US's largest grocer - as the fairest retailer of them all. Whole Foods pretty much invented organic groceries, but has been struggling since competitors started offering organic food that doesn't cost a whole paycheck. Expect Amazon to use its discount-savvy ways to help Whole Foods cut prices. Meanwhile, Walmart's suiting up. It's buying men's clothing company Bonobos for more than $300 million. Bonobos is responsible for the chino pants all the guys in your office are wearing. Walmart wanted to try it on for size. The deal is Walmart's latest move to up its online shopping game against Amazon. Ready to checkout.

What to say when you and your friend make dinner plans but show up at different locations...

Guess we should have coordinated better. Yesterday, President Trump's lawyer said 'the prez isn't under investigation.' But days earlier, Trump said the opposite. Here's how we got here...both the FBI and Congress are investigating whether Trump's campaign team helped Russia interfere in the presidential election. Last month, Trump fired former FBI Director James Comey over "this Russia thing." Then weeks later, Comey testified in front of the Senate. He said before he was fired, Trump told him he hoped Comey would 'let go' of part of the FBI's Russia investigation. This all led the Justice Dept to hire special counsel Robert Mueller to take over the investigation. And last week, it came out that Mueller's now looking into whether Trump tried to obstruct justice. Trump seemed to confirm this himself on Twitter when he said "I am being investigated for firing the FBI director..." Then yesterday his lawyer said 'hold up:' Trump was simply responding to a media report and no investigators have told Trump they've got their eye on him. Glad that's settled.

What to say when you hear Beyonce's twins are here...

Brooks Koepka has something to celebrate too. Yesterday, he won the US Open in his first-ever major title. Now he runs the golf world.
