YOU THIRSTY FOR MORE?

The Story

President Trump is ready for another meeting with Russian President Putin. Because the backlash from the first one apparently wasn't enough.

Hi, can you back up a little?

Earlier this week, Trump and Putin met up in Helsinki for a little face-to-face action. And Trump wouldn't flat-out say that Russia attacked the 2016 election. And said Putin denied it 'like a boss.' He also said there was blame on both countries for the frosty relationship. Cue: lawmakers, intelligence officers, and people on the street saying 'this mother.' So, he backtracked. And backtracked again.

Got it. Then what?

Then lawmakers on both sides of the aisle said 'this is pretty bad, we should prob do some damage control.' So Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) called on Congress to respond by coming up with more sanctions against Russia. And some Dems asked to see the receipts - aka chat with a translator who was at the behind-closed-doors meeting to find out what really went down. There's also a bipartisan effort to publicly back the intelligence community. TBD if any of this happens. Because, Congress.

Where's Putin in all of this?

Keeping that denial game strong. His gov also mentioned that it wants to interrogate some Americans - like the former ambassador to Russia - that it claims were involved in "illegal activities." In exchange, Russia would extradite those 12 Russian agents who were indicted for hacking the DNC in 2016. At first, the White House said 'we'll get back to you on this,' but then turned down the offer.

Ok...give it to me straight.

Russia attacked the 2016 election. US intelligence agencies agree. There's a report that Trump knew about the meddling since last January. Yesterday, the homeland security sec said 'let's be ready for more.'

What's the point of another meeting?

First off, DC in the fall. Enough said. But mostly because Trump says he wants to "start implementing" issues the two came up with earlier this week. He thought that meeting went really well...despite the "enemy of the people" - aka the media - giving the summit a bad rap.

Anything else?

Here are a few more things Trump isn't thrilled about: the Fed raising interest rates, the EU fining Google, and prob that new tax probe.

This week we've seen the president buddy up to a country that's attacked US democracy. The world is closely watching how this friendship progresses.

REPEAT AFTER ME...

What to say when you hear Facebook and AMC Theatres are getting cozy...

Comcast is feeling lonely. Yesterday, the cable giant said it's dropping its bid for most of 21st Century Fox. Fox's Rupert Murdoch has been trying to sell the company's entertainment assets so he doesn't have to deal with competitors like Netflix and Amazon. Last year, Disney made it an offer. Then Comcast threw its hat into the ring. The Mouse upped its bid to $71.3 billion. Now, Comcast is saying 'I fold.' But it's still in the bidding mood. And is looking to buy up Sky - the British broadcaster that Fox has a big stake in. Here's the thing...Disney wants it, too. Pass the popcorn.

PS: 21st Century Fox is a minority investor in theSkimm.

What to say when you park too close to the curb...

Reverse. Yesterday, Kentucky's governor reportedly gave hundreds of thousands of Medicaid recipients their dental and vision coverage back. Earlier this month, the governor decided to cut the benefits for some Medicaid recipients as a way to save money. He originally planned to do this by adding work requirements to Medicaid recipients who were able to work. But a judge said 'not happening, bro.' So the governor said 'new plan' and came up with these cuts. Now - after a bunch of pushback - he's apparently walking the new plan back.

What people are getting bad déjà vu from...

Austria. This week in WTF, the country's far-right party proposed a law making Jews register with the government if they want to buy kosher meat. This would reportedly also apply to Muslims. Alarm bells, anyone? The party says the idea is to protect animal welfare. But everyone and their mother is ready to overnight Austria their history textbook...including Germany. Yesterday, hundreds of people there reportedly marched wearing kippahs (Jewish caps) to protest anti-Semitism. This came after a Jewish professor was assaulted last week by a man who said "no Jews in Germany." When police came to the scene, they attacked the Jewish professor. Now some Germans are banding together to send a message.

What to say when you hear Melo's making moves...

Gotta keep it fresh.

What to say when you're the younger sibling...

No. Nooooooo.

For when your frenemy gets you a job interview...

What's the catch? "Give Me Your Hand" by Megan Abbott gets into a very complicated female friendship. Imagine your lab partner from high school being your best friend. Fun. Then imagine her telling you a secret that changes your lives forever...and showing up decades later as your professional competition. Not as fun, but way more interesting. Get it here.
