Last night, the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 in Super Bowl LVII (read: 57). Now, the Chiefs are taking home the Vince Lombardi Trophy. And QB Patrick Mahomes added another win under his belt: Super Bowl MVP…for a second time.
Unidentified objects. Over the weekend, the US military shot down three new unidentified objects floating over North America. On Friday, a jet took down an object about the size of a small car over Alaska’s frozen waters. The next day, the Pentagon said another US jet shot down a “high-altitude airborne object” over Canada’s Yukon territory. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he “ordered the take down,” which was coordinated by NORAD (the combined US-Canada air defense organization). And yesterday, a US fighter jet shot down a third object flying over Lake Huron. If you’re counting, there've been a total of four flying objects that have been shot down in over a week. Now, officials say they are looking into the debris to see where the objects came from and if they were part of any surveillance programs. It comes as Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said the US didn’t know about “these balloons” until “a few months ago.”

Presidents and veeps. On Friday, the FBI discovered a classified document in former VP Mike Pence’s Indiana home. It comes after the former veep agreed to the search after a first batch of docs were found at his home last month. It’s unclear what the documents are related to. But the discovery also comes as special counsels investigate President Biden and former President Trump for classified docs found in their homes. It’s not clear yet whether the Justice Dept appoints a special counsel for Pence, another potential 2024 presidential candidate. Pence’s lawyers say the VP and his team will “be fully transparent” through the rest of the investigation. The FBI’s reportedly expected to search Pence’s office in Washington, DC in the coming days.
Where people are looking for accountability…
Turkey. Over the weekend, Turkish authorities issued 131 arrest warrants for contractors linked to the buildings that collapsed following the 7.8 and 7.5-magnitude earthquakes. While the quakes are one of the deadliest to hit the region in a century, many are also pointing the finger at faulty construction for causing the buildings to topple over on residents. For years, experts have raised safety concerns about new buildings amid accusations of gov corruption. Now, authorities have arrested 12 contractors for their alleged role in the faulty construction that worsened the damage. It comes as more than 36,000 people have died across Turkey and Syria — a toll that may continue to increase.

If You Want Something Done Right…
The last three years have been rough for women. One thing we hear over and over is that women are done sacrificing themselves for jobs, partners, systems, and ideals that don't reward that sacrifice. According to new data we've collected (more on that soon), women are instead reshaping their finances, careers, and families to put their wellbeing first. After all, as the pandemic made all too clear, no one else will.
We want to hear from you. How have you done this in your life? What is one action you've taken or decision you've made for yourself — big or small — in the last three years that has dramatically improved your life, and how? Tell us about it using this form. We may feature your answer in an upcoming story.
