QUOTE OF THE DAY

“I’ve tried everything please help” — Chrissy Teigen, after staining her fingers green from Fun Dip the day before the Grammys. Green thumb gone wrong.

UP IN THE AIR

THE STORY

Yesterday, North Korea decided to push President Trump’s buttons and test-launch a ballistic missile.

GIMME SOME BACKGROUND.

The US and North Korea aren’t on friendly terms, partly because NK has spent years trying to develop nuclear weapons and test out missiles. Trump has vowed to be tougher on NK’s nuclear program. And when the country recently said it’s thhhhiisss close to testing a missile that could reach US soil, Trump said “it won’t happen!”

SO WHAT’S THE LATEST?

NK’s getting testy. Literally. Yesterday, the country launched a missile that landed in the Sea of Japan. This came as Japanese PM Shinzo Abe was spending the weekend golfing with Trump in Florida. Abe called the move “absolutely intolerable.” He also reminded NK that UN resolutions prohibit the country from building or testing ballistic missiles. Meanwhile Trump kept unusually quiet, but said that the US is with Japan “100%.” Still, it’s unclear what he’s going to do about it.

This was NK’s first missile launch since Trump’s been in office. While the missile didn’t go far enough to raise serious alarms in the US, this is a major test for how Trump will handle a country that’s considered a global threat.

REPEAT AFTER ME...

WHAT TO SAY WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU MONDAY…

Make Lemonade. Last night was the Grammys, aka Beyoncé’s lamaze class. She performed an ode to motherhood, brought two sets of twins with her, and took home two awards. But Adele officially won the night, beating Bey for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Album of the Year. She then spent her acceptance speeches crying over her love for Queen B. As one does. Adele was also rolling in some performance issues (again) and restarted her tribute to George Michael. Who else was there? Host James Corden, who tried to one-up Ellen’s selfie with some carpool karaoke. A Tribe Called Quest and Katy Perry got political. Chance the Rapper got three awards, including Best New Artist. Over a year after his death, David Bowie won five awards for “Blackstar.” And Bruno Mars and Blue Ivy channeled Prince. The music world was also missing Al Jarreau. Yesterday, the seven-time Grammy award winning jazz singer died at age 76, just days after he officially hung up his hat.

WHAT TO SAY WHEN YOUR CO-WORKER CALLS IN SICK BUT CHECKS IN AT THE AIRPORT ON FB...

Busted. Just like national security adviser Michael Flynn. Last week, it came out that Flynn might not have been telling the whole truth about a convo he had with a Russian diplomat. Reminder: last year, the US intelligence community said zee Russians interfered in the presidential election in part to help President Trump win. Former President Obama slapped Russia with sanctions. Then last month, it came out that Flynn had been in touch with the Russian ambassador to the US at around the same time those sanctions were announced. Making a lot of people say ‘wonder what they talked about.’ US intelligence looked into it. And now officials say that Flynn may have hinted that the incoming administration could be open to rethinking those sanctions. Problem, because Flynn wasn’t working for the White House yet and there’s a law against regular citizens participating in foreign relations discussions. The Trump Administration — including VP Mike Pence — has been publicly defending Flynn, and saying that this phone call didn’t include any sanctions talk. So now it seems like Flynn might’ve misled Pence. Political pants on fire.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE WATCHING...

Paris. Over the weekend, riots in a suburb outside the city became violent. That’s because earlier this month, a black man said police had raped him with a baton while they were arresting him. A video of the incident appears to show police beating the victim, and the victim had to have surgery after the alleged assault. The incident sparked over a week of protests against the police’s use of force. Then last week, the police said it was an accident and not rape. Cue thousands of people rioting over the weekend. Meanwhile, the officers involved are now under investigation. In other super uplifting news, over the weekend, the US Tennis Association mistakenly played a Nazi-era German anthem before a US v Germany match. Fault.

WHAT TO SAY TO YOUR FRIEND WHO’S NEVER LOST A GAME OF “CARDS AGAINST HUMANITY”...

These women know the feeling.

THING TO KNOW

Rolfing: A massage that’s deeper than deep tissue. It targets tissue around your muscles called fascia. And it might be that thing your friend who’s into acupuncture tried. Hurts so good. Or just hurts.
