QUOTE OF THE DAY

“We know that you love the spontaneous displays of emotion” - NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, explaining the league’s decision to let players celebrate TDs. He’s pumped...can’t you tell?

ON ALERT

The Story

Just a day after a suicide bombing in Manchester, British PM Theresa May increased the country’s terror to the highest level. She says another attack could be ‘imminent.’

Remind me what happened.

Earlier this week, a suicide bomber blew himself up at a stadium as thousands of people were leaving an Ariana Grande concert. At least 22 people died, including an 8-year-old. Nearly 60 were injured. It was the deadliest terror attack in the UK since the 2005 London attacks. May says she raised the terror threat level because it’s possible that a “wider group” of people might be involved. Thousands of soldiers are now patrolling the streets and major transit stops across the country.

Who did this?

The suspect is a 22-year-old British citizen of Libyan descent. Yesterday, ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack - but it’s unclear if the suspect had ties to the group.

This is the second attack to hit the UK in recent months. Now, the country is on high alert as authorities work to prevent another from happening.

REPEAT AFTER ME...

What to say to your friend who orders her martinis shaken, not stirred...

Farewell Moore, Roger Moore. Yesterday, the British actor died of cancerat age 89. He rocked a tux as James Bond in seven 007 movies in the ’70s and ’80s, including “The Spy Who Loved Me” and “Octopussy.” That’s more than any other Bond actor. But Moore’s big break actually came back in the ’60s with TV shows like “Maverick” and “The Saint.” Moore also went on to play that other suave British man with a strong jawbone, Sherlock Holmes. In 2003, he was knighted for his charity work with UNICEF and added ‘sir’ to his business card. Cheerio, sir.

What to say when you can’t get a stain out of your white shirt...

Looks like this is here to stay. Just like the Russia probe. Yesterday, former head of the CIA John Brennan said he was concerned about “contacts and interactions” between Russian officials and President Trump’s campaign team last year. There are multiple investigations into whether Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia to interfere in the US election. The FBI began its own investigation last summer. Yesterday, Brennan told lawmakers how and why that probe got started. He said the CIA noticed a lot of contact between Trump associates and Russian officials. Brennan said he was worried that Russia was trying to get these people to help sway the election. Since the CIA is not a law enforcement agency, it passed the info along to the FBI, which launched the official probe. Brennan’s testimony comes just a day after US officials leaked that Trump had asked top intelligence officers to publicly deny any evidence of collusion. These officers gave Trump’s request two thumbs down. Meanwhile, Trump’s busy giving Pope Francis a thumbs up. Today, the two men – who have clashed over everything from immigration to environmental policymet at the Vatican. They shook hands, exchanged gifts, and Francis even gave Trump an olive branch. Olive actually is all around.

What to say when your friends can’t remember who ordered the extra drink on the tab…

Let’s settle. Just like Nokia and Apple. Yesterday, your 90s phone maker and your 2000s phone maker agreed to settle multiple patent lawsuits. For years, Apple has paid Nokia to use some of their inventions in its own products (think: software, antennas). But late last year, Apple sued Nokia for unfair patent practices, saying Nokia was charging too much. Nokia sued back, demanding that Apple keep paying top dollar for using their tech. After a lot of legal back and forth, the companies shook on a new patent deal. Apple will pay Nokia an unknown amount of cash. Who’s also settling? Tar-jay. Yesterday, the retailer said it’ll cough up more than $18 million for its 2013 data breach. The one where personal data and credit card info for tens of millions of customers were compromised. It was one of the largest data breaches ever. Multiple states joined forces in an investigation and pointed the finger at Target for weak security. Now, the company’s writing them a ‘we’re sorry’ check, and has promised to up its security game.
